Another posting another sign post.

Each sign post points to everywhere the unit has deployed in a war like or peace keeping operation.

Red: 🟥stands for 2HB and its historical units
Blue: 🟦stands for 1 Surg and its historical units
Yellow: 🟨stands for 11CHC and its historical units

The left side on each sign is in English, the right side is in the local language of the time.

For anyone who gets to see this in person just know the black sign with my name on it was not intentionally that obnoxious

Field Medals Part 2

Australia being a peace time army, deployments were hard to come by. My former colleagues and myself began a competition to see who had the most “field deployments” which lead to these field gongs.

These gongs are in seniority order.

I’ve attached my field gong rack so you can all be aware of how much of a big deal I am and so you can thank me for my service.

Have I missed any training areas?
What field gongs do you have?
Feel free to tell me bellow and I might message you your field gong rack so you too can big dawg your friends and family

Field Medals Part 1

Australia being a peace time army, deployments were hard to come by. My former colleagues and myself began a competition to see who had the most “field deployments” which lead to these field gongs.

These gongs are in seniority order.

Honestly, the amount of field gongs a soldier has in this day and age, tells me more than any commendation on their chest 🫡

The 5th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (5 RAR) was originally raised on 1 March 1965 as part of Australia’s expansion during the Vietnam War. The battalion deployed to Vietnam twice — May 1966 to May 1967, and again February 1969 to February 1970 — earning a formidable reputation for professionalism, courage, and camaraderie.

After its Vietnam service, 5 RAR was disbanded in 1972, later re-raised and amalgamated in 1973, forming 5/7 RAR (Mechanised). In 2006, the two battalions were again separated, and 5 RAR was re-established as a distinct unit based in Darwin. The battalion has since served with distinction on operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Timor-Leste, and the Solomon Islands. In recent years, the two units have once again joined to become one unit.

NORFORCE, is one of the most unique units in the Australian Army. Raised in 1981 and headquartered in Darwin, NORFORCE is tasked with patrolling and protecting some of the most remote, rugged, and sparsely populated parts of Australia — covering an area roughly the size of Europe.

What makes the unit stand out is not just its mission, but its people. More than half of NORFORCE’s soldiers are Indigenous Australians, bringing with them generations of local knowledge, bushcraft, and survival skills. Their ability to move, track, and live off the land makes them unmatched in reconnaissance and long-range surveillance.

Operating across deserts, jungles, swamps, and coastline, NORFORCE soldiers are trained to be self-reliant, often working in small patrols far from support. They are the modern heirs to the legacy of the Australian Independent Companies and Z Special Unit of WWII — forces that mastered unconventional warfare in the harshest environments.

Today, NORFORCE remains a key part of Australia’s Regional Force Surveillance Group, guarding the Top End “over land and sea.”
