🌿 SPRING HAS ARRIVED, PLANT PARENTS! 🌿

Your indoor plants have noticed.

With longer days, stronger light and warmer temperatures arriving in Perth, spring is a good time to give your indoor plants a little check-up.

Here are a few jobs worth putting on your spring list:

☀️ Check the light
The position that suited your plant in winter may now be receiving stronger sunlight.

🧽 Clean the leaves
Dusty leaves deserve a gentle wipe with a soft, damp cloth.

🌱 Think about fertiliser
If your plants are entering active growth, it may be time to resume feeding according to the needs of the plant and the fertiliser instructions.

💧 Check before you water
Warmer weather does not mean every plant needs watering on a fixed schedule. Check the soil first.

🔍 Look for pests
Have a peek underneath the leaves and around the stems. Finding pests early makes them much easier to deal with.

🪴 Check the pots
Look for roots coming through drainage holes or plants that seem to be drying out unusually quickly.

✂️ Tidy things up
Remove yellow or damaged leaves and give leggy plants a little attention where appropriate.

🌿 Refresh your displays
Try varying plant heights, textures and foliage shapes. A plant stand can also turn a small plant into a much more noticeable part of the room.

Warning: Sally Mitchell is not to be underestimated.⚠️

Approach with caution. She appears perfectly pleasant, friendly and harmless, but this is how it starts.

First, she will ask you whether a photo looks better with a leafy background.

Then she will casually mention that she has an idea for a Facebook post.

Three minutes later, you are discussing Instagram, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, reels, Father's Day, SEO, planters, indoor plants, recycled timber, and whether a frog planter needs a name.

She has an alarming ability to turn “I’ll just do a quick post” into a full marketing strategy.

She is also known to:
🌿 Become disproportionately excited about a particularly cute planter.
🌿 Ask perfectly reasonable questions, then immediately think of four more.
🌿 Turn almost anything into content. Dogs, frogs, plant facts, timber, Father's Day, even going on holiday.
🌿 Have very definite opinions about backgrounds in product photos. And quite rightly so.
🌿 Refuse to sell something simply because everyone else does it. If photographing 47 individual plants and pots sounds like a nightmare, it is officially not happening.
🌿 Say she is going to keep something simple, then produce a surprisingly ambitious plan for the week.
🌿 Asks, “Do you think a reel would be better?” immediately after deciding on the photo.
🌿 Expect her husband Paul to turn bits of old timber into something lovely.
🌿 Know considerably more about indoor plants than the unsuspecting person who casually says, “I’ve got a plant at home, but it looks a bit sad.”

Most dangerous of all, she genuinely wants to help people. So if you mention that your plant is dying, prepare to receive practical advice, possible causes, watering guidance and quite possibly a recommendation for an easier plant.

Proceed with caution.⚠️

She may look like a nice lady who sells indoor plant gifts from home.

She is actually running a small botanical empire from Banksia Grove. 🌿😂

♍️ VIRGO SEASON HAS ARRIVED... A WEEK AGO! 😂🌿

Yes, I'm a week late with my Virgo post.

Between our recent little break and planning my 3-day plant sale, it completely slipped my very busy mind.

You can tell I'm not a Virgo. 😂

Apparently, Virgos are organised, practical, detail-oriented and like to keep things under control.

So naturally, I chose the Peace Lily as their plant.

Why?

💚 Elegant and classy
💚 Likes a bit of order and attention
💚 Very good at communicating when something isn't right
💚 And, just like some Virgos, it can become extremely dramatic when ignored! 😂

Leave a Peace Lily without water and suddenly it's lying flat on the floor looking like it's been personally betrayed.

Give it a drink and, before you know it, it's standing tall again as though nothing ever happened.
"I wasn't being dramatic. I was making a point." 😂

And Virgo has some pretty famous company too...

Winter has had its quieter moments, and I think of us have felt the need to slow down a little.

But spring is almost here, and there is something lovely about that shift. Longer days, fresh growth, a little more energy, and perhaps the urge to get things moving again.

For me, I’m leaving behind some of the winter sluggishness and stepping into spring with fresh ideas, new plants, and plenty of planty things to share with you.

There’s something about seeing new leaves unfurl that reminds us that growth doesn’t always happen quickly. Sometimes we just need to give things time.

So, as spring approaches, what are you ready to leave behind, and what are you looking forward to growing into?
