One of the biggest misconceptions about Feng Shui is that it’s all about decluttering.

💁🏻‍♀️ It isn’t.

A tidy home can still have poor Feng Shui, and a home full of books, art, colour and personality can have very good Feng Shui.

What matters is how the space actually works, how it feels to move through it, and how the environment affects the people living there.

That’s why I always look beyond the obvious.

Sometimes the issue is clutter.

Sometimes it’s layout.

Sometimes it’s light, movement, placement or the way a room is being used.

The interesting part is learning to notice what your home is telling you.

Which space in your home never feels quite right?

Last year, I spoke at the Master Builders Association’s Florence luncheon about Feng Shui and how our spaces influence our moods, mindset and how we experience life.

And now Florence is back! On 21 August, Hayley Lewis hayleylewis_swimrun will take the stage as this year’s keynote speaker.

It’s such an amazing room to be in - women across building, design and property, sharing ideas, making connections and having conversations that matter.

If that sounds like your kind of room, join us Florence Magazine

And while you’re here, take a look at your own space. What is one area that could use a little more attention? 💖

Can you ever unhear that your home has “bad Feng Shui”?

I recently heard about a couple who were told exactly that. They were so frightened by the advice they received that they sold their home just nine weeks after buying it.

This is exactly why I believe Feng Shui should empower people, not make them fearful.

Good Feng Shui isn’t about telling someone their home is “bad”. It’s about understanding how your environment influences your health, relationships and opportunities, then making practical improvements that help you thrive.

Feng Shui should inspire confidence, not fear. It should help you understand your home and make informed changes that support your life. Not leave you feeling anxious or disempowered.

That’s the philosophy behind everything I teach, and it’s exactly why I wrote Feng Shui: A Homeowner’s Guide to Abundance.

People often ask whether fake or dried plants are bad Feng Shui. 💐

My answer is: the real deal is always best. However I do LOVE this preserved foliage arrangement at my client’s beautiful home.

Preserved plants like this example are a great alternative to fresh flowers and foliage. They still connect us to nature, create a sense of wellbeing and lift the energy in a space.

And they do not represent the dead energy of dried arrangements or the fakeness of faux flowers. 🥀

In the case of my clients who needed the fire element (colour red) to enhance the energy in this room, their beautiful arrangement was perfect - Feng Shui approved, with no tacky ornaments required! 🧧

Twenty-nine years ago today, I walked into a job interview.

I didn’t get the job…

…but I got the husband. 😁💖

Who knew that one interview would lead to meeting the man I’d spend the next 29 years with?

Looking back, I believe I manifested this guy. Whether you call it timing, fate or being in the right place at the right time, I’m certainly grateful.

Over the years, I’ve also come to appreciate just how much our environment influences the way we connect with the people we love.

Feng Shui isn’t the reason we’ve been together for 29 years. Relationships take love, respect, patience, laughter and a willingness to grow together.

But I do believe that creating a home which supports harmony, communication and connection makes a real difference. Our surroundings influence how we think, feel and act, and I’ve seen time and again how Feng Shui can help create a home that supports happier relationships.

It’s one of the topics I’ll be sharing at my Blue Mountains retreat next month. We’ll explore how to create a home that supports not only attracting the right relationship, but also nurturing one for years to come. If this speaks to you, I’d love to have you join us.

Happy 29 years since we first met, Shane. ❤️

I still think you’re the best thing I never got from that interview!

Melbourne, mark your diary. Friday 17 July, I’m at Decor + Design 🎤💃🏻

Here’s the thing about Feng Shui - it often gets filed under superstition and decoration. Candles, crystals, done.

Meanwhile the designers who actually get it are using it to give clients exactly what they’re chasing right now: wellness.

Come find out how.

What I’m covering:
✨ Modern Feng Shui principles for interiors
✨ How wellness influences buyer appeal
✨ Creating harmony through design
✨ Why wellness-focused spaces are the future

Confession…

Kaja Troa - Yoga & Healing and I didn’t sit down and think, “Let’s create another wellness retreat.”

We kept having the same conversation over and over.

Women are exhausted.

They’re juggling careers, families, ageing parents, partners, friends… and somewhere in the middle of all that, they’ve forgotten what it feels like to have a weekend that’s actually about them.

So we decided to do something about it.

No pressure to become a new person.
No pretending everything’s perfect.

Just a beautiful weekend to reset, reconnect, laugh (there’ll be plenty of that) move your body and leave feeling a little more like yourself again.

If that sounds exactly like what you’ve been needing, we’d love you to come along. 💕

When did you last do something just for yourself?

Not for your kids. Not for your partner. Not for work. Just for you.

If you’re struggling to answer that, you’re not alone. I see this constantly, women who carry everyone else for so long they forget what it feels like to be on the receiving end.

I understand it because I’ve lived the other side. In my 50s, I feel younger than I did in my 20s, with more energy and spark. I’ve also found a sense of purpose I simply didn’t have back then. All because I learned how to support myself through my environment, mindset and daily practices.

That’s exactly why I created The Retreat, bringing the Feng Shui and lifestyle practices I live by together with Kaja Troa - Yoga & Healing the Wellness and Yoga Queen, and her 25+ years of helping people move, breathe and feel like themselves again.

A luxury winter weekend at the stunning Lilianfels Resort & Spa in the Blue Mountains, for women who are ready to put themselves back at the top of the to-do list.

Here’s what’s waiting for you: dinner at Miss Lilian, a three-course dinner at the award-winning Darley’s, practical Feng Shui lifestyle practices you’ll actually use at home, restorative yoga, sound healing, and the kind of honest conversations that only happen when you finally slow down. There may even be some dancing. (That one’s on me.)

No yoga experience or Feng Shui knowledge required. Just come as you are. And bring a friend if you’d like.

📍 Lilianfels Resort & Spa, Blue Mountains
📅 14–16 August 2026

Places are limited to keep the experience intimate, and I’d love to see you there. If you’ve been thinking about a women’s weekend away for a while, consider this your sign from the universe. Come along!

Tell me below, when was the last time you did something just for you?
