I am absolutely thrilled to be one of the six artists selected for the 2026 (Studio)Lab cohort with

Just over a week into this six-month journey and I am already loving every minute. So far we’ve bound our own books with the fabulous Taryn from Platform Arts, spent an inspiring day exploring Joywork in Desperate Times with Claire and Jen from The Centre for Reworlding, and today I finally began a little plotting, dreaming and making in this beautiful light-filled studio space.

It feels incredibly special to be part of a cohort of thoughtful, generous creatives, with the time and support to explore new ideas, challenge my practice and see where curiosity leads.

I’m excited to share this journey as it unfolds over the coming months.

Lately I’ve been making a series of smaller saggars for experimentation — to test how different waste organic materials respond within the same firing.

It’s not often I choose such smooth surfaces for my work, so I couldn’t resist finishing this one with hand drawn patterns.

Traditionally, saggars were used to protect delicate porcelain from flame, smoke, ash and kiln debris during firing. Today, contemporary saggar firing has evolved into almost the opposite process — trapping combustible materials inside the saggar to encourage smoke, minerals and natural oxides to create colour, texture and unpredictable surface markings.

Every firing feels like a collaboration with the materials themselves 🖤

I love making these little flower dogs — intricate and tricky to create, but so satisfying once they come to life. Tiny treasures with their own quiet personality… they are just too sweet 🖤

Even after all this time Saggar Firing, I’m still amazed by the range of colours that emerge using only natural waste materials.

No mined minerals or added oxides — just what I forage on my walks, or collect as food waste from local kitchens.

This small incense burner is made from wild clay gathered in Belbrae. I love working with clay straight from the earth, leaving in the small stones and impurities so that once fired, they reveal unexpected textures, cracks and stories.

For me, wild clay carries a depth and complexity that feels impossible to replicate — a direct imprint of place.
