Last progress report. It's done and dusted.
Pretty happy with it. I only managed to get 850 or so bits of grass on, which, in hindsight, was a blessing. The final job was to get my hands in there and evenly bend/spread them.

Progress report on my new Xanthorrhoea or Grass Tree.
Trunk is done, now prepping "grass" wire for brazing on. This includes melting the ends of each to minimize scratches etc, all 1,000 of them.
The trunk is 1.6m high and will get stalks and seed pods of another 1.4m.
Lots more work yet.

Latest work in progress.
This will be my 20th Grass Tree, and probably my last.
It's also destined to be my biggest with a planned 1,000 bits of "grass".
It will finish up around 9' high.
I even built a gantry (finally) to lift it onto my ute when it's done.
Lots left to do, so, finishing my cuppa, and back out to the shed.

My latest Grass Tree has a new home in Raby Bay, Cleveland, on the shores of a canal with views out to Moreton Bay Qld.
Not the first time I've been envious of one of my sculptures new homes.
It needs to be straightened up on a firmer base, but that's going to be it's permanent home.
Great clients paid for me to deliver it myself.
I took the opportunity to do a flying visit to the grandkids while I was up there, but I'm back home in Vic now.

Balit-mukmuk
My entry into this years Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.

This is my stylized version of a "Balit-mukmuk" which is the Wurundjeri translation of Powerful Owl. A large owl species found in the Yarra River corridor.

Heat treated and clear Powder Coated steel, West Australian, Black Jarrah Plinth on recycled plow disc.

Melbourne city councils change to parking has made it all but impossible to drop off sculptures at the Victorian Arts Society building when the Association of Sculptors Vic have their annual exhibition.
As it was there was only 15 minute parking, but that was just enough to drop pieces off then move on.
Now, the parking is just for commercial vehicles with signage.
Please consider signing the petition to have the parking change reversed.

We're at again this year.
Jana and I have a joint exhibition again which promises to be even better than last year.
We've both had the benefit of more inspiration (and practice) which has seen us in a flurry of creativity in between our busy life.
Jana is embarking on hosting workshops, so her art should be of particular interest to those starting out with watercolors.
Saturday the 15th will see us both at the gallery with snacks / nibbles but no alcohol. We both feel alcohol is more appropriate for an evening opening.
We would be very happy to see you all throughout the day and duration of the exhibition.
