My new favourite carving axe, a Rhineland-pattern 600 gram head I rescued from Ebay, hung on a 12 inch handle taken from another old hatchet. Most comfortable little axe I have ever used.

English oak makes a great cooking spoon. Not the easiest wood to carve but long-lasting and with an attractive grain.
