🌿 Sometimes the best floristry classroom is outdoors.

Today we swapped the studio for the beautiful Wilson Botanic Park in Berwick as part of our Floristry Foundations programme.

Our focus? Looking at nature through a florist’s eyes.

Observing how plants grow, the movement of branches, contrasting textures, natural colour combinations and those wonderful little spaces between.

Because learning floristry isn’t just about arranging flowers. It’s about understanding what inspires a design in the first place.

We also enjoyed a lovely chat with the team at the onsite plant nursery, discovered a few plants we simply couldn’t leave behind, and learned a little more about the wonderful community surrounding the park, including the Friends of Wilson Botanic Park. 🌱

And, of course, no excursion would be complete without a coffee and hot chocolate from Gather! ☕️

A morning of curiosity, conversation and botanical discoveries.

Next, we’ll take some of that inspiration back into the studio and explore how nature’s shapes and movement can influence our own floral designs.

A little reminder that learning doesn’t always happen behind a desk. 🌸

Student spotlight: Mel of Geranium Florist 🌿

Today I popped into Geranium Florist in Narre Warren to congratulate Mel and see the retail space she has created.

Mel joined me for several practical floristry workshops during 2025, exploring hand-tied bouquets, hatbox design and more expressive floral styles. It was so lovely to reconnect and hear about her experience of opening her own shop earlier this year.

Stepping into retail floristry takes creativity, courage and an enormous amount of work. I’m delighted to see a past Berwick School of Floristry workshop student building a business of her own and bringing flowers and thoughtful gifting to the local community.

Congratulations, Mel. Wishing you and Geranium Florist every success as the business continues to grow. 💐

A little behind the scenes as I set up for tonight’s class at Berwick School of Floristry 🌿

Tall stems, twisting branches, beautiful foliage and a little pop of coral peony … there’s plenty to play with on the tables tonight!

We’ll be creating tall, sculptural vase arrangements, exploring height, movement and balance, and learning how to give each flower and branch room to shine.

Choosing the materials is such a lovely part of preparing a class. I’m always thinking about what will work together, what will stretch our students’ skills and what might spark an idea of their own.

Looking forward to seeing these flowers in everyone’s hands tonight. I’ll share how they turn out! 💚

A little look inside a recent private floristry workshop 🌿

This lovely group joined me in the studio to create vase arrangements with Australian natives. We explored shape, texture and how to give each stem its own space - and I loved seeing how differently every arrangement came together.

🌸 A little milestone moment…

This week we stopped, looked back and celebrated just how far one of our floristry students has come. 💐

Months of learning, creating, experimenting, industry experiences and growing independence all brought us to a pretty special morning here at Berwick School of Floristry.

I’ve been putting together a little Reel to share more of Cassie’s floristry journey and the milestone we celebrated — and I can’t wait to show you. 🌷

IN BLOOM | Student Work

No two students create quite the same way—and that’s exactly how it should be.

Over the past few months, our workbenches have been filled with students exploring colour, shape, texture, mechanics and their own developing design style.

Some arrived having never arranged flowers before. Others came wanting to strengthen their skills or challenge themselves creatively.

And then there are those wonderful moments when I demonstrate a design, step away…and watch each student interpret it completely differently.

That’s where the magic happens.

Floristry isn’t about copying the teacher.

It’s about learning the foundations, understanding why something works and gradually developing the confidence to make your own creative decisions.

🌿 A very special evening in the studio last night. 💐

With lovely mum and daughter, Cassie and Anabel joining me, we were able to tailor the class to their interests and learning goals, creating a relaxed and personalised floristry experience.

With Cassie’s wedding coming up later this year, we explored the fundamentals of floristry while creating beautiful hand-tied bouquets, chatting about bouquet design, flower care and the spiral technique.

A special mention to Anabel, who picked up the spiral technique so quickly! It was such a joy to watch her confidence grow with every stem she placed. 🌸

Thank you, Cassie and Anabel, for a wonderful evening. I hope this is just the beginning of your floristry journey, and I’d love to welcome you both back to the studio again soon. 💚

Berwick School of Floristry has become such an important chapter in my floristry journey. Over the years it’s grown into so much more than a place to learn about flowers — it’s a community filled with creative, supportive and genuinely wonderful people, and I’m incredibly grateful for every person who has been part of it.

As part of our 10th birthday celebrations, we’d love to welcome past and present students to join us on Thursday evening from 7.30pm to 9.00pm for a glass of bubbles, some birthday celebrations, and the chance to catch up with fellow flower lovers. Whether you’ve attended one class or been part of the journey for years, we’d love to see you. 🌸🥂

🌊 Ocean-Inspired Floral Design Workshop

A beautiful evening in the studio creating designs inspired by the colours, textures and movement of the ocean.

Using vibrant blue orchids, textural blooms and flowing foliage, each arrangement reflected a unique interpretation of the sea. I love seeing how the same flowers can inspire such different creative outcomes.
