Grevillea Song

I'm dividing my painting time between pastels and acrylics at the moment and finished this one the other day.

I love getting lost in the quiet rhythm of meditating in nature - spending hours immersed in the intricate details of plants.

Grevillea flowers come in many shades from milky white to bright red. The one that inspired this painting had soft, muted pinks and browns. When you spend quiet time in nature you can feel there are deep stories and songs that long to be told. I've embedded text from antique books and pianola music into the base layers. Hidden words and music that express the mystery of flowers.

These tiny pink flannel flowers are quite rare. I photographed them a few years ago in the Blue Mountains. They only flower after a combination of particular conditions - I think there has to be a fierce bush fire followed by heavy rain at just the right time for the seeds to germinate.

So delicate.
So pretty.
