Can you spot the hidden goldfish? 👀

Completed in 2021, “Serenity” by Molly Hamilton-mcnally emerged from a dark year as a symbol of calm, hope, and happiness with pairs of resting birds, hopeful reds, and touches of whimsy, like hiding a goldfish somewhere in this piece...

The NQM permanent collection features more than 650 pieces in a wide range of styles, techniques, inspiration and unique artistic voices. The one common factor: they represent the best of contemporary quilting. Collection Quilts are regularly rotated into the gallery. So, come see this quilt, which will be on display for a limited time.

After all, in-person it's easier to find the fish. 🐟 Get your tickets here: https://bit.ly/NQMtickets

This beautiful amethyst-tinted serving bottle is made from a type of glass developed during the 1670s that contained a high percentage of lead.

This so-called ‘lead-glass’ or ‘crystal’ was much heavier, less fragile and more brilliant than that produced previously in either England or Europe. George Ravenscroft (1618-81), a glass merchant, was the first to obtain a patent to produce lead-glass in England from 1674.

The pincered decoration of lozenges on the body is known as 'nipt diamond waies', a type of decoration with Venetian origins, which is not surprising as workers from Murano were employed in Ravenscroft's glass-house at the Savoy, London.

See it on display in Gallery 48 on Level 2.

A delicate detail from the late Victorian era 🌸

This pressed-glass shoe flower holder, one of a pair, was made by Sowerby’s Ellison Glass Works Ltd. in Gateshead-on-Tyne around 1888. Designed to hold small blooms, it’s a beautiful example of how everyday objects were transformed into elegant decorative pieces in the 19th century.
