At House of Adorn, we're all designers, makers and creators with knowledge and experience across millinery, costuming, fashion and more. When we're not at the shop, our team members are all out creating in the real world, each with their own unique styles and interests - and we bring that knowledge back to the showroom floor every day.

Wire is an essential element for adding structure and support to many projects but did you know that different types of wire are especially good at specific jobs?

Steel spring wire is strong and sturdy, and being memory wire, retains its curvature unless forced beyond a certain limit. It's great for felt and straw hat brims, where the light spring tension keeps the brim solid and ensures it doesn't get bent out of shape.

Plastic Brim Reed on the other hand, is a popular choice for crochet hats, and is extremely useful for stopping larger brims from "flopping" in traditional millinery. Because it's plastic, it's also great for anything that might need to get wet, or can even be used as a visible detain in cosplay designs!

Of course, hat brims aren't the only elements that need this sort of structure and support in a project. Let us know in the comments where you've used wire in your designs.
