The traditional method for making stained glass uses lead came, long strips of lead shaped into an H or a U (for outside borders). The edges of the glass pieces fit into the channels in the lead, and the joints between the strips of came are soldered together. The copper foil technique was developed as an alternative to lead came to allow the construction of three-dimensional glass objects like lampshades & suncatchers but it can also be used in windows. Copper foil works better for intricate designs with small pieces, because the technique makes finer lines between the pieces -- you don't have the edges of the lead overlapping the glass. Copper foil is also best for irregularly shaped pieces, whereas geometric shapes are better suited to lead.

Our Story

In 2004, Trinie established her own glass art studio in Tropical Mackay, Qld. For the next several years Trinie was kept busy teaching both traditional leadlighting, and copper foil glass arts, as well as further developing her own skills with kiln fired dichroic glass jewellery, and glass slumping & fusing projects. After her partner, an offshore helicopter pilot was transferred to Darwin, Trinie continued with her glass passion in the ‘Top End’ , now with a focus more on selling her art at the famous Mindil Beach Markets, Parap Markets and also at many Art Studio outlets in the top end region. Having now moved permanently back to Brisbane & decided to semi retire – Trinie has now decided to open her home studio once again, to others that may wish to learn from her many years of experience and passion with the glass arts.
