The Moana Collection is a reflection of the deep connection between our people and the ocean — a reminder of where we come from, where we have journeyed, and the stories that continue to guide us.

Featuring rich tones of deep blue, pounamu green, black and white, each feather has been carefully placed by hand to create a korowai that carries both presence and meaning.

This is more than a garment.

🌿 What’s the Difference Between a Woven and a Sewn Korowai? 🌿

One of the questions I get asked most often is about the difference between a woven korowai and a sewn korowai. Both are beautiful taonga, but they are created using different techniques.

🧵 Woven Korowai
A woven korowai is made using traditional raranga techniques, where each strand is woven into the body of the garment. This process is highly detailed and can take many months to complete, depending on the design and size. Every row is carefully crafted by hand, creating a taonga that carries the time, skill, and dedication of the weaver.

✨ Sewn Korowai
A sewn korowai is created by attaching feathers to a woven or fabric backing using sewing techniques. While still handcrafted and requiring many hours of work, the process differs from traditional weaving methods. Sewn korowai can be a more accessible option while still providing a stunning and meaningful garment.

❤️ Which is better?
Neither is “better” than the other. Each korowai has its own place, purpose, and story. The right choice comes down to personal preference, budget, timeframe, and the significance of the occasion.
