After the abattoir catching team had left the farm, the following day we were permitted to go back and collect the seven hens who had saved their own lives by escaping the catchers. Sadly it appears the farmer used dogs to catch the remaining hens and the multiple bites, lacerations and wounds were shocking. Never mind the trauma of being pursued not once but twice in 24 hours.

They have begun to settle and to eat a little now.. although the fear hasn’t left yet and there’s still screaming when we need to pick them up. All are on antibiotics and pain medication. The wounds have been cleaned and sealed. It’s up to the girls now to decompress from the trauma and let their bodies continue with the natural healing process. I think their minds may take a little longer.

🚒 if you are squeamish, do not open the comments. I have put some before and after photos for those who may be interested in just some of the issues we have dealt with over the last 48 hours.

Photo of Coco ~ she had the worst wounds of all and we didn’t think she would live through the shock.

I have written two separate articles on this page about the latest hens to arrive at Sweethearts Sanctuary.

In May 2025, a lost American Shorthair cat named Nub Tang was brought to a Bangkok police station by a concerned citizen after being found wandering in a pink harness. The stressed feline bit and scratched several officers trying to help her. Officer Da Parinda Pakeesuk turned the situation into a fun mock arrest, complete with paw-print “fingerprints,” a mugshot against a height chart, and a playful police report. The post went viral, leading the real owner to claim Nub Tang the next day. The cat was released on “bail” with a humorous warning and fictional confession. The lighthearted story highlighted compassionate policing and brought smiles worldwide.
