Once you come down the stairs at Sapphire Street, you enter the quiet zone.

There are some spaces that need a little separation from the rest of your home (especially from busy family-centric living areas). The study is one of them, and for our clients, this second lounge room was another.

They coexist in this grounded section of the home, which opens out to the garden through big sliding doors. Another sliding door can separate the two spaces when that extra layer of privacy is needed.

In the same way a family home needs zones for togetherness, it also needs zones for quiet solo time. When both are designed and delivered thoughtfully, that's what makes a home work well!

Growing up in Ireland (where wallpaper is much more commonly used than it is here!), Grainne remembers that the most elegant homes always had striped wallpaper.

It's simple, it's classy, it's timeless. And it works beautifully here in this hallway library at our Caravelle Apartment.

For a small thoroughfare space, this wallpaper offers some contrast and distinction from the surrounding rooms. It says 'this is an intentionally designed space', rather than letting it feel like an afterthought.

(And, let's be honest, the Irish have it right – it does feel elegant, doesn't it?)

Infusing your home with richness and character doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. It just has to be thoughtful!

A spot for your trusty recipe books, a nook for your coffee machine, a shelf that can actually fit all the toiletries you need in the shower... we all need some good open storage!

Some people are afraid that it will make their house feel more cluttered – but when it's done well, it almost fades into the background. It makes use of dead space, it slots neatly into the room, and it can often double as decoration.

And most importantly, it means that when you need one of those things that we all reach for everyday, you don't need to open cabinet doors or rummage around in drawers. It's right there waiting for you!

A glimpse at the new TV unit and dry bar we've designed for our Hopetoun Apartment. A custom-made piece like this can make all the difference, particularly in a smaller home.

There's open shelving to display books and beautiful objects; generous cabinetry for the practical items that you want on hand but not on show; and last but not least, a dedicated bar with a wine fridge, which suddenly makes entertaining so much easier (and more exciting!).

And of course, it's all dressed in beautiful refined finishes to make it feel like a little bit of luxury in your lounge room.

A structural column right in the middle of a busy cafe... exactly the kind of challenge we love to work with!

Previously, this column had been used to accommodate some high bench seating seating, with all stools facing the wall – but we knew we could make it work better for the space and feel more inviting for customers.

It's now lined with cork (great for dampening sound in a space like this!), with low seating wrapped around it and a stainless steel table attached to each side.

You can lean back comfortably, settle in with your coffee, and watch the world go by.

It's not every day you get design briefs from kids – but when it does happen, we take it seriously!

Preston House was created for a family of four, and both children got the chance to make requests for their own bedroom and bathroom.

One child had blue as a favourite colour, and the other wanted black elements worked into the spaces.

Our job then was to make sure we lived up to the brief in its entirety: designing spaces that felt special, kid-friendly and tailored to their inhabitants – while still delivering a timeless outcome that could grow with the family.

Our favourite is the subtle blue cloud wallpaper to the ceiling!

Swipe to add light! Some renders from a home we're working on in the W4 Woolstore apartments here in Teneriffe.

Small square tiles that wrap the floors and walls; a glass brick half-wall that refracts light; timber joinery for a touch of warmth; and selective moments of beautiful intricate stone as an accent.

Designed as a timeless, relaxed space for our clients to start and end their day.

All throughout the living spaces at Preston is this herringbone timber flooring. It's the kind of material that works seamlessly in the background, but also becomes a feature of its own when you look closely.

The grain of the timber and the herringbone pattern respond beautifully to different light conditions – whether it's drenched in direct sunshine, sitting below the diffused glow of a skylight, or illuminated by pendant lamps at night.

All the richness, warmth and timelessness of a classic timber floor, just with that extra touch of detail and interest.

A moment for this sweet cafe curtain, which feels right at home in Kin's refreshed interiors.

It filters natural light, adds a light layer of enclosure for those sitting nearby, and introduces some softness against the timber and stainless steel of the interior palette.

It's one of those features that might fly under the radar at first glance, but when you look closely, it's quietly tying everything together.
