Introducing the new Audrey & Me Furniture logo!

More than just a logo, it tells the story of how this journey began. The sketched furniture piece is inspired by one of the many treasures I’ve had the privilege of restoring, while the two tiny figures represent my beautiful Grandma Audrey and me.

When Audrey passed away, I inherited her china cabinet. It became the very first piece of furniture I ever restored, awakening a creative passion I never knew existed. That single piece sparked a love for furniture, craftsmanship, and giving cherished pieces a second life—a passion that has grown into Audrey & Me Furniture today.

Having Audrey represented in my logo feels like carrying a little piece of her with me in every restoration, every story, and every furniture makeover. 💛

This beautiful Silky Oak sideboard (see before photos at the end) was gifted to me by an elderly gentleman as he prepared to move into full-time care. This piece held deep sentimental value, having been a wedding gift from his brother when he and his wife married in 1942, and it remained by their side throughout their lives together.

After losing his wife some years earlier, the time had sadly come for him to part with it. It was a true privilege to become its next caretaker, restoring it with the love and attention it deserved so it can continue its story for many years to come in a new family home 💛

Aunty Ag (as the previous owners loved to call her - see earlier post) was a special piece. What I thought was just going to be a lovely Marketplace find, turns out the family and I know many of the same people back in my birth town, including my parents. Such a lovely way to connect.

When it comes to sideboards, I prefer to take the extra time to completely disassemble every part. It allows me to properly strip back each surface, work my magic, and then carefully bring it all back together again.

I chose not to apply a stain wash on this piece, keeping the finish light and airy. Instead, I created a soft, coastal creamy oak look using a custom paint wash to gently neutralise the orange and red tones.

Two coats of the Hard Wax Oil in a Matte finish was applied to give longevity and protection.

The original bevelled mirror has been reinstalled, showcasing its unique character through subtle silvering and signs of wear. Despite its age, it functions beautifully—perfectly blending old charm with a fresh, updated setting.

New Antique Brass cabinet, drawer pulls and lock/key were installed.

Aunty Ag, your glow up ✨is finally complete and you are ready to bring joy to a new home.

👋 Meet Aunty Ag — the newest guest in my workshop! 💛

I collected this beautiful piece last night from a lovely seller whose family had lovingly nicknamed this sideboard Aunty Ag, after the wonderful lady who first passed her down to my sellers Mother. The sellers Mother then passed Aunty Ag onto her and has been with her for years.

She’s been a cherished part of the family, but with a house move and a little downsizing ahead, it was time for Aunty Ag to find a new home.

Now she’s here with me, ready for a little TLC and a fresh chapter — and knowing how much she’s meant to her family makes restoring her that much more special. ✨

I have been swooning over this stunning oak Jacobean sideboard since the day I brought it home. 🤎

It came from a lovely seller whose family had cherished it for many years — it once belonged to her Mother, and parting with it during a move wasn’t easy. I feel honored to be able to put some love back into this gorgeous piece, and now it’s ready for a new chapter (see last image for the before)

Solid oak, beautifully detailed, and full of character — this piece is both functional and timeless.

Another Silky Oak sideboard is now complete, with this one having a fun and fresh pop of colour on the inside!

I knew I wanted to use a lovely bright, happy green and when I set my eyes on the mineral paints and saw ‘Jade’ it was exactly what I was chasing. I have applied using my spraygun to achieve that flawless finish.

So what did I do….
~ Complete strip of all areas removing all that old shellac.
~ A mix of orbital and hand sanding. This piece had detailed and hard to reach places, so lots and lots of hand sanding.
~ Application of a tan paint wash to help minimise those orange tones of the Silky Oak, using
~ Applied two coats of a lovely soft brown waterbased stain to bring back some depth and bring forward the lovely grain patterns.
~ Spray applied inside cabinet and drawers with Base & Blocker
~ Spray applied mineral paint in the colour ‘Jade’
~ Applied two coats of Hard Wax Oil in a matte finish

Original cabinet lock and key were given a good scrub using the trusty vinegar and Bar Keepers Friend mix and are back in working order. I did install a new antique brass escutcheon to help finish off the cabinet door. Thanks to for always having the best hardware stock.

This stunning Silky Oak sideboard is now complete and available for purchase.

I found this beauty on Marketplace in a little village located in the Tweed Shire, north-eastern NSW. Being Brisbane based, it was a full day round trip, but absolutely so worth it (I will do what I have to for the right piece ☺️)

I feel in love with the large round mirror feature and the beautiful curve detailing. The patterns of the Silky Oak are so striking and brings interest to this piece.

Sadly, the mirror itself was not in great condition and heavily desilvered. I had a custom mirror cut to size and refitted - FUN FACT: there is not one company in all of Australia that supplies custom bevelled mirrors, which was annoying.

The original hardware was also not in great condition, so brand new antique brass hardware was installed. Careful consideration of the hardware was made to ensure they looked similar to the originals and continued to compliment this piece.

So what did I do….
👉 Complete strip back of all areas
👉 A mix of Orbital and hand sanding starting with 120 grit and then 240.
👉 A custom tan paint wash applied to neutralise those orange tones.
👉 Application of stain to help bring warmth back into the piece and make those beautiful Silky Oak grains and patterns sing!
👉 Two coats of Hard Wax Oil in a matte finish was applied to bring longevity and durability. It also gives such a soft ‘buttery’ finish to the timber.
👉 Original lock was cleaned and made to work again.
👉 Stunning wallpaper print lines all three drawers. The colours compliment so well.
👉 Applied carnauba wax to drawer runners and interior timber.

I thoroughly enjoyed working on this beautiful sideboard and bring life to another piece of stunning furniture ☺️
