A big thank you to our volunteers who have been out and about supporting our local community at recent events and community activities Your time, skills and commitment make a real difference.

👩‍🚒 SES training & preparation – we are continuing to build our skills and readiness for the upcoming storm season.

We’ll continue getting out into the community, sharing emergency preparedness advice and showing what the SES does before, during and after emergencies.

🧡 MOGGILL SES – THIS WEEK'S COMMUNITY UPDATE 🧡

🎡 EKKA WEEK IS HERE!
The Royal Queensland Show runs from Saturday 8 to Sunday 16 August, with Brisbane Ekka public holiday (People's Day) Wednesday 12 August.
If you're heading to the Ekka this week, a little planning can make the day safer and more enjoyable:
👟 Wear comfortable shoes – you'll probably walk further than you think! Count those steps...
💧 Stay hydrated – take water with you and remember to drink regularly.
🧢 Slip, slop, slap – Queensland sun can still pack a punch in winter.
👨‍👩‍👧 Have a meeting point if you're attending with family or friends. Crowds can make it surprisingly easy to become separated.
🚗 Plan your trip – public transport is recommended for getting to the Ekka, especially as roads and surrounding areas can be particularly busy and free parking hard to find.

🧡 COMMUNITY TIP OF THE WEEK
Take a moment to check in on a neighbour, particularly someone who lives alone or may need a little extra help. Prepared communities are connected communities!

A heartfelt thank you to Brisbane West Uniting Church for hosting yesterday's Community Morning Tea as part of Loneliness Awareness Week.

It was wonderful to see members of our local community come together over a cuppa and cakes, share conversations, enjoy some light activities, and simply spend time connecting with one another.

Events like these remind us that building a strong, resilient community isn't just about being there during emergencies, it's also about looking out for each other every day. A friendly chat, a welcoming smile, or taking the time to connect with someone can make a real difference.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and helped create such a warm and welcoming morning. We hope it inspired new friendships and reminded us all that no one has to face loneliness alone.

Let's continue to check in on our neighbours, friends and family, not just during Loneliness Awareness Week, but throughout the year.

Community resilience starts with community connection, and we're proud to support initiatives that bring people together.

💙 You're Invited – Community Morning Tea ☕

Brisbane West Uniting Church are supporting the Loneliness Awareness Week initiative by hosting a morning tea on the church verandah for anyone in the local community (or beyond) to come along to.

🕘 9:00 am – 12:00 noon
📍 Brisbane West Uniting Church - 3451 Moggill Rd, Moggill

Drop in for a cuppa, a simple morning tea, and a chat. There will also be some easy activities to enjoy if you'd like to take part.

Whether you're new to the area, live alone, or simply feel like meeting new people, everyone is welcome. Sometimes the smallest conversations can make the biggest difference.

If you know someone who may be feeling isolated, consider inviting them along—or better yet, come together.

Let's continue building a connected and caring community, because no one should feel alone 💙.

📱 Reminder – National AusAlert Test

On Monday, 27 July 2026 (tomorrow) at 2:00 pm, a test Critical Alert will be sent to most compatible mobile phones, and some smart watches and tablets across Australia.

This is part of the testing for the new AusAlert national warning system before it launches in October 2026.

✅ No action is required if you receive the alert—it's only a test.

🚗 If you're driving when the alert is sent, don't look at, or handle your phone. Stay focused on the road and check the message when it's safe to do so.

Please don't be alarmed if your device sounds or displays the test message.

At the time of the test, a single Critical AusAlert test will be sent to every mobile device in Australia. Everyone with a compatible phone or other device in Australia can expect to receive the alert.

Moggill SES will be at the Moggill State School 160th Anniversary Fete (aka Mogganza) on Saturday, 25 July 2026.

Come and say hello to our volunteers, check out our SES vehicles and equipment*, and pick up some great tips to help you and your family prepare for storms, floods and other emergencies.

🌡️ A Chilly Week Ahead for Moggill and Surrounds

Winter has certainly arrived, with cold mornings and cooler days forecast across Moggill, Bellbowrie, Pullenvale, Anstead, Karana Downs and surrounding communities this week.

While the temperatures may not compare to southern states, Queensland winters can still catch us off guard. Here are a few simple ways to stay safe and comfortable:

🏡 Keep your home warm by closing curtains and sealing draughts where possible.
🔥 If you're using portable heaters or a fireplace, keep them at least one metre away from anything that can burn and never leave them unattended.
🚨 Take a moment to test your smoke alarms - winter is a time when home heating increases the risk of house fires.
🔋 Charge your phone and any essential devices. Cooler weather can sometimes bring strong winds and localised power outages.
👵 Check in on older neighbours, family members or anyone living alone. A quick phone call or visit can make a real difference.
🐶 Bring pets into a warm, dry and sheltered area overnight, and make sure they have food and water.
🚗 Heading out early? Be aware that patches of fog can reduce visibility on local roads, particularly around low-lying areas and near the Brisbane River. Slow down, switch your headlights on and leave extra space between vehicles.

Winter is also the perfect time to prepare your home for the storm season ahead. Cleaning gutters, trimming overhanging branches and checking your roof now can save time and stress later in the year.

Today is WOW Day.

Also known as Wear Orange Wednesday, WOW day is a national day of recognition, where Queenslanders and communities across Australia are encouraged to wear orange to show their support and gratitude for the incredible State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Queensland SES, a significant milestone in its history. Let's celebrate the incredible contributions of volunteers from all walks of life.

Help spread the word by wearing orange, sharing photos and tagging State Emergency Service on Facebook or on Instagram to show your appreciation.

Just a reminder the Moggill Marathon is happening this morning. Some roads will be closed or have limited access. Feel free to cheer the runners on if you're in the area.

🌤️ It's looking a little cooler this coming week… but still hot, Queensland!

Temps might dip slightly this week, but we’re still looking at days in the 30s — and that can still take a toll. Don’t let the “cool change” fool you.

Stay heat aware:
💧 Drink water regularly
🧢 Wear a hat & sunscreen
👕 Light, breathable clothing
⏸️ Take breaks if working outdoors
🚗 Never leave kids or pets in vehicles

Heat fatigue can sneak up quickly, especially during outdoor work, sport, or school activities. Look after yourself, check in on others, and take care this week.
