Long before electricity, the chōchin was lit and carried through Japanese streets. A frame of split bamboo, ribbed and round, dressed in washi paper, creating portable soft light.
The Cloud Linen Round Pendants draws from that lineage. Rattan replaced bamboo and linen in place of paper. The hand still does the work — each piece stretched and seamed over the frame, with the joins left visible as a record of the maker.
Linen warms the light differently to paper. It holds the colour of the room and ages slowly.
Both Taupe and Ivory are back in the showroom and online this week.
