I have been actively following the work of Circonomy since they opened their warehouse in Morningside.

Circonomy are a social enterprise who began in Brisbane and are now expanding nationally. Circonomy work to reduce waste furniture and also sell excess goods from retailers that would otherwise end up in landfill.

If you are looking to furnish a cafe, restaurant, or office. Check out circonomy in their Morningside warehouse. There are fantastic bargains to be had and you will know you are helping the earth.

Over the past couple of weeks I have worked with their lovely upholsterer Sam on my own little project, to transform some cane lounges for my living room.

All of the materials except the fabric are sourced second hand or reused offcuts from local manufacturers.

Warm neutral finishes .design. It is easy to specify materials that are better for the earth. All it takes is asking a few questions to make sure the products we select are manufactured responsibly.

I have had an idea for a little while now to build a shared product library of environmentally sustainable materials.

The library will be a resource that can be accessed by a collective of local designers who are all working toward creating a more sustainable future in the design industry.

This week I have made the first steps to make this vision a reality. If you are a supplier of certified sustainable products in the design industry I am keen to have a chat.

Vaquero Dining was a collaboration between Renew Design and Brave Creative. The client’s vision for the space was to create fine dining restaurant and cocktail bar tucked behind a butchery in Albion.

The design inspiration was taken from the Spanish cowboy known as the Vaquero. The material palette combines charred timbers, leather and rope to draw reference to this design inspiration.

At Vaquero meat is the hero of the meal. Stepping through the butchery to enter the restaurant, diners can choose their cut of meat and watch it prepared in the open kitchen before presentation at the table.

We do this by creating partnerships, collaborating on projects, sharing ideas, delivering design projects, creating products, testing solutions and bringing together the right people to create impact.

We have given ourselves one year to make the largest dent we can in moving the construction industry towards a circular economy. We are bringing together our skills and enthusiasm with the right people to grow our ideas into an impact driven business.

The most sustainable bar in the world 2021.

Today I stumbled by chance upon an amazing little bar in Sydney made completely from waste materials.

The owner Matt Whiley chatted with me about all of the products they have used that are made from waste.

The balustrades, tabletops and counter are a stunning terrazzo look plastic made from recycled plastic bottles from Replast

Light fittings are made from mushrooms. The leather look upholstery is made from pineapple leaves. The crockery and glassware are all seconds from Mud Australia that would not have gone to market.

Matt and the team are also sourcing waste food products from surrounding hospitality businesses to create signature cocktails.
