Ink Duck's "Duck Dash" is well and truly underway, with our named and numbered ducks continuing to pop up in all sorts of locations.

Last week, one of our ducks, appropriately named “Dash”, made its way to Koh Samui, Thailand and stopped in for a photo at Lamai Beach.

A big thank you to for capturing Dash enjoying island life for us.

Some ducks will stay local, some will travel far, and some will end up in places we never expected and that’s exactly the point.

Each stop adds to the story, and at our 10 year celebration later this year we’ll be recognising the ducks that have gone the distance, found the most unique locations, or shown serious commitment along the way.

We can’t wait to see where Dash heads next.

One of the things we love about architecture is that no two people arrive at it the same way and no two days are ever the same.

For Lyle, architecture appealed because of the variety that comes with it.

“You have to be a bit of a jack of all trades.”

After coming from a residential background, he joined Ink Duck wanting exposure to larger scale projects and a broader mix of work.

Since joining the team, he’s worked across everything from subdivisions and residential projects through to education, aged care and community projects.

Right now, he’s particularly enjoying the education sector. “It’s quite interesting learning how a school works.”

When asked what he enjoys most about Ink Duck so far, the answer was simple: the projects and the vibe of the office.

A typical morning starts with a chin wag with the crew, checking emails and getting stuck into work… ideally with everything running smoothly.

Outside of architecture, you’ll usually find him playing music, road tripping, camping somewhere near the beach or forest, or walking with his son and dog before work - along with the standard 1 or 2 coffees.

Fun fact? He recently learned Toyota originally started as a textiles company before eventually moving into cars which suits perfectly given his fascination with old Landcruiser's.

Oh and he carves a mean pumpkin!

At Ink Duck, we’re big believers that good design starts with good people and Monique has been a great addition to the studio.

Currently in the final year of her Master of Architecture and working towards registration, Monique was drawn to architecture through a mix of creativity, problem-solving, and the ability to create spaces that connect meaningfully to people and place.

Since joining the team, she’s worked across a range of education, sports facility, and master planning projects, enjoying the diversity that comes with studio life at Ink Duck.

What’s stood out most so far? The team culture. A collaborative environment, plenty of communication, support, learning by doing and of course, a lot of laughter along the way.

Outside the studio, Monique keeps just as busy with hockey, AFL, gym sessions, and university work. And like many architects, coffee plays a fairly important role in the process too.

One thing she’s learnt recently that’s stuck with her? Less is more.

We’re looking forward to seeing Monique continue to grow as part of the team.

We’re excited to announce a new project win for Ink Duck Architects with UniSQ.

The project involves an office refurbishment within an existing campus environment, and we’re looking forward to working with the UniSQ team over the coming months.

Always great to be involved in projects that support the ongoing evolution of education campuses.

Fabulous to see the Rochedale State High School Science Block Refurbishment nearing completion.

A few quick snaps before the professional photography is done.

This project has involved the refurbishment and upgrade of existing science learning spaces to create a more contemporary, functional and engaging environment for students and staff.

We can’t wait to share the finished result soon - just the furniture to go in now..

One of our Ducks, Quackers, owned by Kristine Kolade from Multitech, recently made it to the State Masters Weightlifting Competition in Bundaberg. That might be one of the more unexpected appearances so far.

Don’t forget to grab a photo with your Duck on your travels and send it through.

What drives us at Ink Duck?

It’s creating spaces people genuinely enjoy being in, with a sense of calm, clarity and connection.

That comes from making considered decisions early, balancing budget, materials, buildability and long term use, rather than overcomplicating the process.

We focus on keeping things simple, solving problems early and designing for people, not for ourselves.

A few things we stand by are that style is subjective, a good idea is a good idea, every project matters, and staying humble is important.

The best feedback is always the kind that comes direct from the client.

We partnered with the Brisbane Bullets to deliver their High Performance Centre, and this is what they had to say about working with us.

We can’t believe it’s been a year since the Brisbane Bullets High Performance, Recovery & Administration Centre in South Bank was completed.

Located on the corner of Merivale and Russell Streets, this once tired building was transformed into a high-performing, multi-functional home for basketball in Brisbane, supporting everything from elite training through to the day-to-day running of the club.

The facility brought together:

Head office and administration spaces
Meeting rooms and players’ lounge
Merchandise store
Gymnasium and physiotherapy treatment areas
Change rooms
Main court, dribbling and shooting bays

This project showed what’s possible when a space was designed to bring people together, support performance and create a genuine home for a team.
