๐ฟ A little piece of my heart todayโฆ ๐ฟ
Today I had a moment in the shop that honestly felt like a little knife in the guts.
A lady came in today looking for a plant to give to a friend. She had a look around and then, as she was leaving, said she was going to go to Bunnings instead.
Normally I'd just shrug it off. People have choices. I get it.
But what she didn't know was that I'd just spent the last two days preparing the plants in my shop.
I've got around 30 beautiful plants that I've individually potted into fresh, quality mixes, paired with beautiful pots and put out ready to be given as gifts. ๐ฑ
I drive to Perth to hand-pick my plants from growers I trust and whom are family buisnesses. I bring them back, climatise them for weeks, give them the right food, clean their leaves, care for them and make sure they're happy and healthy before they ever hit the shelves.
I've spent years learning about plants because I don't just want to sell you something green in a pot. I want to be able to help you choose the right plant, tell you how to care for it and make sure it actually lasts.
So seeing someone walk past 30+ plants that I've poured hours into, only to go to Bunnings, honestly hurt a little.
Not because I think everyone should buy from me.
But because sometimes I think we forget what goes on behind the doors of a small business.
You see a plant on a shelf.
I see the hours spent sourcing it, driving to Perth, bringing it home, caring for it, repotting it, cleaning it, feeding it, finding the perfect pot and making it gift-ready.
And that's the difference with small business. โค๏ธ
I hear all the time, โThere are no local gift shops anymore.โ
But here's the thing...
We can't stay open without you choosing us.
Every time you choose a small local business over a big chain, you're helping someone's dream survive.
You're helping pay rent.
You're helping pay wages.
You're helping us buy more stock.
You're helping keep the lights on.
And you're helping make sure there are still little independent shops around when you need that special something.
So please, before heading straight to the big guys, have a look around your local small businesses.
You might find something more unique.
You might get better advice.
You might get a little more love with your purchase.
And you might just help keep someone's dream alive. ๐ฟ
Because behind every little shop is a person who is working bloody hard to keep it there.
And today, I'll admit it...
That one hurt. โค๏ธ
