Bravo to this beautiful human being for maintaining her creative integrity, as well as doing something for herself!! Copyright characters are a big NO when it comes to patterns or items for sale. Even if a pattern is free, it is still against copyright law to provide one of a copyright character without the copyright owner's permission (by this, I mean Disney, Marvel, etc who own the rights to the character).
First, a big thank you to everyone who left kind and supportive comments on my recent Land Before Time crochet series. Your encouragement means the world to me.
I want to address some of the rude and shaming comments. Earlier this year, I was battling severe burnout. My creativity was depleted, and I felt overwhelmed. Crocheting Littlefoot and the rest of the gang was a passion project that genuinely brought me joy and helped pull me out of that rut. As I’ve mentioned before, the goal was to reignite my creative spark and test my skills, not to create patterns for sale. Frankly, it’s saddening to be called “rude” or a “gatekeeper” for not releasing patterns for a personal project that was born out of a difficult time.
The reality of pattern creation is that it’s a ton of work, and I have to be mindful of copyright. Large corporations are increasingly cracking down on licensed character patterns. I’ve made the decision to focus my time on creating and releasing patterns that are not for licensed characters to avoid the risk of my work being taken down. And same goes for selling plushies of licensed characters.
I only wanted to share a piece of happiness. When I receive shaming comments, it makes me hesitant to share future passion projects. Thank you for respecting my decision and let’s remember to be kind to one another. 💜
