The next Awagami paper we are showcasing is Kitakata. Made from Gampi fiber. Which is a fiber made from the inner bark of wild gampi shrubs. Gampi paper is highly prized for its strength and natural glossy sheen. It has a warm tone and very soft surface. Weighing just 36gsm, it’s very lightweight. Perfect for a range of printmaking techniques such as Chine-colle and lithography.

The Awagami factory has a remarkable history and lineage spanning eight generations of washi paper makers in Tokushima, Japan. We are blessed to offer a selection of these fine art papers. We will be showing you over the next few post some of these superior papers starting with Bamboo select, made with environmentally friendly bamboo, this sheet has a small ecological footprint. Used for printmaking, drawing, collage, book arts, mixed media, encaustic and more.
