🚴‍♂️ Artist on the Move Laio Poka’s Journey Across Australia
Black Square Arts is proud to spotlight the incredible work of Laio Poka, an artist and changemaker from Papua New Guinea, who is currently cycling his way around regional Australia with a powerful purpose.
Laio’s work transforms discarded tyres into striking artworks — but his impact goes far beyond the materials.
Across communities, Laio is working alongside:
• Men recently released from prison
• People currently incarcerated
• Community members looking for connection, purpose, and healing
Through hands-on workshops, he creates space for storytelling, skill-building, and rebuilding identity — turning waste into something meaningful, just like the journeys of the people he works with.
This work builds on the powerful programs Laio has already delivered back home in Papua New Guinea, and now he’s bringing that same energy, knowledge and cultural exchange to communities across Australia.
North Queensland, this is your opportunity.
👉 We’re calling out to Men’s Groups, community organisations, and leaders across the region:
If you’re interested in hosting Laio for a visit, workshop, or community session, we want to hear from you.
