🌿 What is Biophilic Design — and how can we bring more of it into everyday homes?
Jamie Durie’s Avalon home is a breathtaking example of how thoughtful design can connect us more deeply to nature.
From the rooftop gardens to the floor-to-ceiling windows framing that spectacular water view, every detail of this home is intentionally crafted to support a sense of calm, clarity and wellbeing.
Most of us aren’t building homes on this scale — but the principles of biophilic design are still completely relevant, even in more modest spaces.
Here are three beautiful, accessible ideas to take away:
Bring greenery indoors — even just a few potted plants can soften a space and boost mood.
Layer natural textures — think timber, stone, linen, rattan.
Blur the lines between indoors and out — open up sightlines to the garden, swap heavy curtains for sheers, or rethink outdoor access points.
Biophilic design isn’t about copying a look — it’s about creating spaces that feel good to be in.
💬 Have you tried bringing any of these elements into your home? I’d love to hear what’s made a difference for you.
