Village life often involves trading, with firewood being a widely used cooking method. Trading generally occurs in open spaces, with goods displayed on tables to attract customers, as shop ownership is not a viable option for many. Women often transport goods on their heads while selling, showcasing their resilience in spite of difficult circumstances. Fishing and water collection may take place in the same river due to the lack of running tap water.

Ref: Exhibition for Canberra's Migrant Communities
I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the Over Seas exhibition at the Generator Gallery, Belconnen Arts Centre. As a migrant from Zambia, Africa, it is truly an honour to have my artwork displayed alongside those of so many talented artists from diverse backgrounds.
Learning that my artwork has been purchased and is attracting the attention of visitors to the Centre is a deeply gratifying experience. It is humbling to know that my artistic expression resonates with the broader community, offering a glimpse into the stories of immigrants like me.
I would also like to acknowledge the support of the Multicultural Hub Canberra in presenting this exhibition. Their commitment to showcasing the talents of migrant communities plays a vital role in fostering understanding and unity in our multicultural society.
Furthermore, the prospect of being considered for the $500 People’s Choice Award adds an extra layer of excitement, and I am thankful for the inclusion of all participating artists in this generous opportunity.
Once again, thank you for the privilege of being part of this meaningful and impactful exhibition. I look forward to continuing to share my journey and contributing to the rich cultural fabric of our community.

Warm regards,
Ms. Ester Chabu Banda
