Morant and Sons is the result of years of collecting, acquiring and some may even say hoarding all manner of lovely things. A previous incarnation of this business was Ulmarra Collectable Glass located in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales which ran for two years and attracted collectors and interested folk from all over the east coast to our extensive selection of quality, reasonably priced c

ollectable glass. Over the years I have personally focussed on collecting carnival glass, Murano glass and uranium glass (often simultaneously) before spending the last few years chasing down the exceptionally rare Australian uranium glass known as citrine or citron, which is a light yellow colour and only made by Crown Crystal for a few short years in the late 1920's. Our aim is to again build a reputation as fair and honest dealers, offering a wide range of correctly attributed and well priced items. We have glass from Bohemia in the 1860's right through to contemporary Australian art glass. Morant and Sons also offers original artwork and prints from important Australian artist, George Morant. Morant has shown nearly 20 one-man exhibitions over the past four decades, with solo shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in addition to group exhibitions and travelling shows. Morant is represented in public collections in Australia including the Australia National Gallery, as well as private and corporate collections both within Australian and internationally.

New bit of old glow on the eBay

This is a banquet or gasolier shade that would have originally sat outside a clear glass chimney. The shape is known as a "Ruffled Tulip" and it features a satin or frosted finish. As there is no 'rim' around the collar, this would only work in a fitting that is ruffled edge up. | eBay!

How cool is this little dude? Probably the oldest piece of glass I have that I can confirm an age on.

Sowerby Slag Quatrefoil Posy in Malachite. Manufactured sometime between 20th March 1878 and 7th February 1884. Sowerby pattern 1297 – pattern book IX (1882), page 5.

The peacock is the Sowerby&Co logo for this era while the mark beneath is a British Patent Office registered design lozenge, which confirms exactly when this pattern (not the glass style) was first registered with authorities. These changed to pressed Rd numbers early in 1884.
