“The ODD shop is our passion project.”
Hello! I’m Kevin Burnett, the man who fronts the shop and the creative director behind it.
Since childhood, I’ve been drawing on walls. I grew up in Perth, Western Australia, where I graduated in graphic design. I moved to Melbourne to study and teach fine art, and established a foundry for artistic blacksmithing on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. It was the late 1980s and The Red Falcon took off as a design studio and fabrication factory for metal and glass. We did loads of varied projects: from traditional, hand-forged wrought iron through to high-end architectural stainless and structural steelwork.
Sculpture is my passion — as a blacksmith I loved working with clients on bespoke handcrafted solutions that served a need. I sold The Red Falcon in 2021 to my staff. I fell in love again and the ODD shop is how Kirsten and I have brought our lives together, a passion project in more than one way!
I designed the fit out and over the past year built just about everything you see in the shop, right down to the terrazzo inspired floor finish. Our launch of the physical shop a couple of weeks ago was a triumphant achievement.
OBJETS DaDa is a platform for artful objects for an unordinary life. Fossicked for or on consignment, all the pieces have a certain ‘presence’ — it’s a combination of design, craftsmanship and love — and they’re made from materials that last. Coming soon to ODD are designs of my own. Art, it’s what I live for. That, and love.
