Beachouse architecture

Beachouse architecture Nice houses for nice people. Sustainable living inspired by nature. We believe good design should achieve a natural simplicity. Good design can be affordable.

We integrate our knowledge and experience of local materials, new and reclaimed, with passive solar design, natural ventilation strategies and thermal building concepts to create healthy living spaces that are energy efficient and comfortable in all seasons. Small footprints, simplicity of form, practical construction methods and a clever use of materials can be combined to create beautiful functional living spaces for all budgets.

Nice surprise to see older projects like the King Island house still pop up on social media from different angles.

Slowly, slowly. Simply does it.
We're giving our beach house a little love this year, upgrading the interior with the help of Rebecca Pountney Design as well as making the decision to give her a name that pays homage to the place and the people who made her. Parsons Cove is the tiny beach that sits a few steps away, while the beach house itself was the very first built by Tasmanian architects Stephen Geason from Cykel Architecture and Michael Shrapnel of Beachouse architecture.

A cluster of modestly luxurious timber cabins are nestled into the natural undulating sand dunes of Dolphins Sands enjoying dramatic views across Great Oyster Bay to the Hazards Mountain range of Freycinet National Park on the East Coast of Tasmania.

To protect the coastal environment, the prefabricated and modular timber design touches the natural sand dunes very lightly. The discreet siting within the tall dunes and the wind deflecting shapes provide great shelter from wild coastal winds. The cabins are a Passive Solar Design capturing solar gain in winter, providing generous shade in summer, natural ventilation, high quality windows and glazing and a well insulated building envelope that is also bushfire resistant. Beautifully detailed and crafted in natural materials the interior provides a healthy living environment connecting the indoors seamlessly with the stunning outdoor living environment.

The design responds to our local Tasmanian climate whilst protecting our natural environment and providing a comfortable retreat for its inhabitants all year round.

Construction in progress by the dedicated owners.
