Today's lesson: Why your candle needs to burn to the edges.

Believe it or not... your candle has a memory. 😏

No, it won't remember that embarrassing thing you did in 2014, but it will remember the size of the very first melt pool you create.

If you extinguish your candle too early, it thinks:
💭 "Oh, so we're only melting THIS much wax now?"

And from that moment on, it will continue tunnelling down the centre like it's searching for buried treasure. 🏴‍☠️

The fix? Easy.

🔥 On your first burn, allow the wax pool to melt all the way to the edges of the vessel.

This helps create an even burn, prevents tunnelling, maximises scent throw, and ensures you're getting every last drop of that glorious candle goodness.

Alright class, gather around.

Today's lesson is called:

🕯️ TRIM YOUR WICK 🕯️

Before you light your candle, trim that wick down to approximately 5-6mm.

Why?

Because long wicks are chaotic.

A long wick can cause:
❌ Large flames
❌ Excessive soot
❌ Smoky jars
❌ Faster burning
❌ A candle that thinks it's auditioning for a bushfire

A trimmed wick gives you:
✔️ A cleaner burn
✔️ Better scent throw
✔️ Longer candle life
✔️ Less soot and smoke

Think of it as giving your candle a little haircut before its big performance. 💇‍♀️

Now class, repeat after me:

"I will trim my wick before every burn."

📚✨ CANDLE CLASS IS NOW IN SESSION ✨📚

Alright besties, gather round. Today we're learning that candles are not a "light it and forget it" kind of relationship. 🚩

Yes, they smell amazing.
Yes, they make your house feel cosy.
But no... they should NOT be left burning all day while you disappear to live your best life.

Let's cover the basics:

🕯️ Trim your wick to 6mm before each burn.
🕯️ Let the melt pool reach the edges to prevent tunnelling.
🕯️ Never burn longer than 3-4 hours at a time.
🕯️ Keep away from kids, pets, curtains, chaos and poor life choices.
🕯️ Always burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface.

Now for the important bit...

🚨 STOP BURNING YOUR CANDLE TO THE VERY BOTTOM 🚨

Your candle isn't a challenge. There is no prize for extracting every last molecule of wax from the jar.

Once approximately 6mm of wax remains, it's time to retire that wick. Burning beyond this point can cause excessive heat build-up, increase the risk of vessel damage, and may even melt the adhesive holding the wick tab in place, causing your wick to float off on its own little adventure.

Still got wax left? Don't panic.

✔️ Let the candle cool.
✔️ Scoop the remaining wax into a tealight warmer.
✔️ Enjoy every last bit of fragrance.

If your wick has already decided to go rogue and detach, ensure the flame is extinguished and then carefully reposition the metal wick tab while the wax is still liquid. Let everything cool completely before relighting.

And for the love of candles...

❌ Do not attempt surgery on a burning candle.
❌ Do not move a candle while it's lit.
❌ Do not leave a burning candle unattended.

Congratulations, you've now graduated Candle Care 101. 🎓🕯️

A well-cared-for candle burns cleaner, smells stronger, lasts longer and is much less likely to test your patience or destroy your furniture and house. Candles cost $20, homes cost A LOT more.
