We cleaned Sunshine Coast Airport's car hire buildings — in the dark. Here's how it worked. 👇
The two car hire buildings at Marcoola had never been properly cleaned in their operational life. Mould, cobwebs, and general grime had built up across the slotted Hardiboard cladding — and in a profile like that, dirt gets into every groove. The buildings were starting to look their age.
The challenge: the car hire desks run from 7 am through to 9 pm. That meant our only window for the exterior was before the airport opened. So we arrived before dawn, set up our lights, and worked through both buildings while the rest of the airport was quiet, washing the cladding groove by groove, cleaning the outdoor decks, and tackling the outside glass.
Later that day, a second team went back in to clean the interior windows, working carefully around customers still using the hire desks, causing as little disruption as possible.
We inspected the finished buildings in daylight: clean Hardiboard, clear grooves, spotless glass inside and out. The first proper clean these buildings had ever had.
That's what commercial cleaning looks like when it's done around a live operation, planned carefully, executed in two phases, and finished without anyone noticing we were there.
