I have just realised I never actually posted this week's menu here. 🤦‍♀️

Apparently I opened the menu, sent the emails, cooked things, answered things, delivered things... and completely forgot the social media part!

So rather than a slightly late menu open post, this is your menu nearly closed post instead 😂

Orders close tomorrow, Monday, at midday for:

🥩 American BBQ Brisket with Potato Bake & Veg
🍍 Brand new Sweet & Sour Braised Pork with Rice
🍯 Baked Honey Mustard Chicken Thighs with creamy mash, carrots & green beans
🍤 Prawn Linguini, including a Gluten Free option
🥚 Tuscan Vegetable Frittata

And Ham & Pineapple Pizza Bars are also available this week.

The Sweet & Sour Pork is a completely new one as I start playing around with some ideas for the warmer weather, while the brisket has made its way back after I realised over dinner last weekend just how long it had been since we made it.

And somehow we have reached the end of Winter Menu #13.

Next week's menu goes live on the very last day of August, but we will cook it in September, so I still haven't decided whether that makes it Winter Menu #14 or Spring Menu #1. 😂

There is something genuinely new on the Open Sauce Kitchen menu this week.

Sweet & Sour Braised Pork with Rice.

I have been doing a bit of testing lately as I start thinking about meals for the warmer months, and this is one I have been wanting to try for a while.

It has all those familiar sweet and sour flavours, with pineapple, capsicum and that lovely glossy sauce, but instead of battered and deep-fried pork, I have gone with pork that is slowly braised until tender.

It feels a little more like an Open Sauce Kitchen version of Sweet & Sour Pork. Familiar enough that you know exactly what sort of flavours you are getting, but made in a way that suits the sort of meals we make here.

And unlike quite a few things that come out of my testing sessions, this one actually made it onto the menu 😂

Accidentally dropped one of our 300g Spinach & Ricotta Cannelloni last night while rearranging the freezer to make room for more stock.

I suppose it was a sign of two things.

One, the freezer is getting rather full.

And two, there was absolutely no way I could send that one out to a customer!

I remade it today, which meant the slightly battered one became mine instead.

I have to admit, after a long few days of cooking, I really look forward to a sneaky couch dinner. Ugg boots on, cooking show on the TV, and something I could just pop in the oven and forget about until it was ready.

Of course, I still had to grate a little fresh parmesan on top, but I didn’t even go out to the garden for fresh basil, which I usually would!

Even so, this one hit the mark perfectly, so I guess sometimes a fail is a win 😂

I hope everyone else is enjoying their slightly more intact cannelloni too!

Butter Chicken with Rice is back after quite a break, along with Pumpkin Lasagne in both regular and Gluten Free.

The Mini Meatloaves with Creamy Mash & Veg are back too, this time by customer request.

Yesterday I went to the Pacific Airshow with my partner.

I’ll admit, this one was definitely more for him than me. I’m not particularly into planes, so I thought I’d happily tag along, eat some food and enjoy the day.

Turns out I completely underestimated how much I’d enjoy it.

The whole event was incredibly well done. The flying and choreography in the air was next level, there were street performers everywhere, lots of great food trucks, and I somehow ended up eating a potato on a stick that was genuinely longer than my arm.

Then, right at the end of the day, I spotted one of the characters wandering around dressed as Rooster from Top Gun.

Obviously I had to say hello.

I told him a little about Open Sauce Kitchen and, very kindly, he agreed to record this little clip for us.

By this point it was cold, ridiculously windy and I was suddenly much more nervous about talking on camera than I expected to be 😂

But I’m very glad I did it.

My partner has since added a little Open Sauce Kitchen polish to the video, because apparently this was becoming a team project.

I’ve been craving chicken schnitzel with creamy mash and gravy, so I changed the usual meal this week.

Normally our schnitzel comes with steamed potatoes, ready to go into the air fryer with the schnitzel so they can crisp up into chips at home.

But this week I decided that wasn’t what I wanted at all.

So this time it’s Chicken Schnitzel with mash, gravy and vegetables.

Sometimes the menu planning process is very sophisticated.

And sometimes I just really want schnitzel and mash.

My partner picked 32 limes off our tree on the weekend.

At first, I thought that was a completely ridiculous number of limes.

Then the rest of the weekend happened.

We had managed to miss the dogs’ grooming appointment after a bit of a communication failure, and with the groomer booked out for weeks and the dogs getting more and more uncomfortable I decided I could probably manage it myself with the dog clippers I bought during Covid.

I could not.

There was wet dog water all over the bathroom, one dog came out looking reasonably respectable, and the other very much did not. She (and I) also found the whole experience fairly stressful, so I think I can safely say dog grooming is one of those jobs best left to the professionals.

Meanwhile, while I was wrestling with wet dogs, my partner was outside trimming the lime tree which is already into full new growth and flower stage and came back in with 32 limes!

He used a few to make margaritas, which felt like very sensible timing.

I’ve also been craving Mexican food lately, so quite a few more disappeared into dinner over the weekend.

By the end of it, 32 limes no longer seemed excessive at all.

And there are still more on the tree. Yay!

This week’s menu is live, and I may have influenced the schnitzel a little more than usual.

I’ve been craving chicken schnitzel with creamy mash and gravy, so I swapped out our usual steamed potatoes and that is exactly how it is appearing on the menu this week.

Also on the menu are Corned Beef with braised cabbage, Fish & Prawn Pie, Spinach & Ricotta Cannelloni, Rice Pudding and our Egg, Bacon & Hollandaise Breakfast Muffins.

There are Gluten Free versions of both the schnitzel and the cannelloni, and we also have 500g packs of sliced Corned Beef available this week.

Sam has declared Potato and Leek her favourite of our soups, so at least one person was very pleased to see it on this week’s menu. I’m surprised it has taken us until week 10 of winter to get it on there!

This week’s menu is open.

Prosciutto-Wrapped Pork Tenderloin is back on the menu after quite a long absence. We wrap the lean pork in prosciutto before roasting, then serve it with sweet potato mash, seasonal greens and a little pan jus.

Steak with Pepper Sauce is also returning after a few customer requests, with mashed potato and vegetables.

Alongside those are Mongolian Lamb with Rice, Tuna Mornay, Potato and Leek Soup, and Chicken and Cheese Toasties on regular or gluten-free bread.
