I have been making Leadlight windows, sculptures and window hangings for 15 years. My family used to restore old Queenslanders and most of them had Stained glass windows that either I repaired or made new ones to suit the period of the house. The commission for the windows for the Holy Trinity Church on Saibai Island was a challenge as I was asked not to make the traditional glass church windows b
ut windows that depicted the building of the church. Each window had to tell the story of the 19 years it took to build. To show case a more modern design for Stained Glass I designed and made the windows for my new house. Just loved making this window. Because I had completed my Master of Feng Shui I wanted this new house to follow the Feng Shui principles of building in ‘the belly of the dragon’ or the arm chair effect. This means building with a mountain behind, protection of both sides and a creek or river in front. As I did not have any of this on a suburban block I created windows like Le Corbusier’s Notre Dame du Haut in Ronchamp. Small windows allowing light into a building to bring colour into small areas to illuminate the space but my windows depicted that of a mountain range. I made 16 30cm square slumped glass class panel like water flowing for the front wall. The front door has a red Stained glass panel for abundance. Various glass panels were designed to enhance the interior. The timber I am using now is old fence timber, found around the farm that has been weathered and has a patina of old age that has been brought to life by sunlight illuminating the glass and casting shadows of healing colours where it falls. I use the colours of the Chakras because they match my Sacred Earth Crystal Essences.
