To recover leather cushions correctly
You 1st need to understand how leather lives and reacts over its life.
As leather wears, it loses its natural memory as the leather membranes wear
Then it starts to stretch away larger than its original size, thinning during this time, it can and will split, crack and even generate holes and worn areas.
So when recutting a new replacement is important to understand where and what the original cut was, and cut to the original size
A few reasons
If you make the new cut the new over sized, it will be puddly / sloppy and not fit into the original seating area. A massive mistake endless people doing upholstery don't understand mostly from their mire recent mass production backgrounds.
When I recover cushions in 98% of seats I only need to replace the top panels and piping trim, almost never any need to recover borders or underside as 99% of leather cushions are not reversible..
