Raksha Ceramics

Raksha Ceramics Raksha Ceramics was born from Amanda's personal journey through cancer and coming out of it with a renewed sense of self and purpose in life. Why Raksha?

Handmade ceramic ware by Amanda Thompson

"I get lost in the process of making a piece, as if in a meditation, my heart calms and I relax into the feel of the clay between my fingers." In order to avoid a future of stress and haste, Amanda turned to an old passion to immerse herself in. Ceramics was the perfect outlet for a previously muted creative spirit, and a path to a slower more deliberate w

ay of being and creating. A local Gold Coast ceramic artist, Amanda’s studio is based in Currumbin. Her emerging style in ceramics is handmade pinch pots, made with precision pressure to mould and smooth out the texture of the clay to form a piece of art. Also working with a mix of slab building and wheel-thrown work to create individual vessels and tableware. Her passion for experimenting with glazes allows Amanda to create objects as functional as they are unique and beautiful. Each piece is handmade, and unique. They are made with care, concentration and love. Other than being Amanda’s middle name, it is the Hindi word for ‘Protection’. Protection from the stress of life in a fast-paced world, that allows no time for reflection and contemplation; protection from the strain on your body of a tense life with no release through the joy of creation.
