Don’t rush the foundation. It feels basic, but often overlooked… Making sure you’re using the right amount of chicken wire, taking the time to place it correctly, and separating the layers when pushing it into your bowl is an essential for (almost) frustration free floral arranging.

Too little and you won’t have enough of a structure to support the stems, they’ll move around and fall out. Too much and you’ll have to force stems in, and you’ll take away the movement and airiness of the design with “stiff” stems.

As requested, here’s how I like to use the Hydration Box method 💧

A few things to note:

The flowers were hydrated in water for a couple of days before making the bouquet

I know this method works better if you have a cooler/fridge. I don’t have on and it was left in my studio overnight as is. It got to a low of 13.4°C.

The Iris literally looked fresher and more hydrated after being in the hydration box than before!!

I do find that sometimes it works better than other times, and I think that’s the hydration and life of the flowers before going in.

My friend SUE MCLEARY | FLORAL DESIGN EDUCATION showed the flower world this method years ago and she is amazing. You should go follow her!
