Ellie ~ Formal Late 2025

Beautiful, kind Ellie contacted us after seeing our formal work from previous years and entrusted us fully with the design process (which is always the best way to work with design based businesses BTW).

Given the full floral fabric of Ellie’s dress, I made a conscious decision to avoid traditional florals as her corsage (at the risk of her looking literally like a flower - the horror!).

Instead, we honed in on the tangerine tones from the print and focused on texture and construction.

The piece was fully hand-stitched using layers of sari silk, French velvet, satin and grosgrain ribbon allowing for depth and movement. Something we look for in all of our work here at T.G.D.

To introduce an additional material element, I collaborated with a highly skilled local leather worker (also my friend) who created leather petals in the same colourway. These were incorporated into the corsage and buttonhole to add structure and another texture.

The response to this job post Ellie’s formal was overwhelmingly positive, and I just loved working on it with her and my friend Zelda to create a very special piece of art 🎀
