With two successful projects already being enjoyed by students and staff, Richard Johnson Anglican School returned to Civic Australia with a new space in mind. The school wanted to create a new student breakout space that combined both functional and aesthetically pleasing elements in order to enhance student learning and engagement.
With the brief in mind, the Civic Australia team set to work to come up with the initial concept, drawing inspiration from the school’s identity and core values as well as the themes for the Paul Cockrem Senior Learning Centre previously completed by the team; global, connection and growth.
For the initial concept, the team came up with the concept of past, present and future to reflect globalisation, connection and growth. This concept was so well received that the brief was then expanded to include two other areas of the building.
The breakout area was designed to represent the future with the team introducing the latest in CNC routing technology to the joinery design and custom printed lettering on the carpet floor to achieve a modern look.
Study nooks line the east wall, allowing students to have private conversations in an open space whilst collaboration and socialisation is encouraged with the ‘collaboration wall’ placed at the centre, providing students with the opportunity to share their ideas and thoughts on the writable glass board and pinboard cabinet doors.
As a school committed to improving student learning resources, these new zones have been designed to provide students with exciting and engaging experiences to enhance their learning and we are so pleased to have played a role in their creation.
Visiting the student learning centre today, you’ll find every zone utilised by students and staff – from students finishing homework in the quiet study area, to others curling up with a book between classes or collaborating with peers, each area is well loved and well used by students and staff and we look forward to seeing what the next project will be.
