GALLERY 101 — MY THREE STYLING MOVES

A gallery wall can completely shift the feeling of a room when it’s handled with intention.

Across my projects, I tend to come back to three moves:

BOLD BACKDROP
I’ll often deepen the wall colour—blue, olive, something with weight—so the artwork sits with presence rather than floating. It gives the composition gravity, and it allows more graphic, expressive pieces to really come into their own—I think more than they ever would on a white wall.

FOUND PIECES
I try not to get too rigid about this part of the process.
A gallery wall works best when it’s a mix of unrelated pieces—whether that’s your children’s artwork or, in one of my projects, a photograph of my client’s nephew in drag.

Those are the moments that give the wall life and make it feel personal rather than overly considered.

CURIO MOMENT
This is where it becomes more personal.
A clock, an object, something unexpected—just enough to break the structure and give the wall character.

It’s less about filling a space, more about creating a composition that feels right for the home and the souls in it. AS x

A moment from a recent Breakfast Point project ✨

This custom console was designed in collaboration with , sitting just off the kitchen and bringing a real sense of personality to the space.

The colour combination is what makes it Tangerine drawers, a teal blue base, and crisp white cabinet doors — it’s confident, layered, and completely bespoke.

I think some of the details… the star backplates and brass k***s from Hepburn Hardware absolutely elevate it. This is the kind of piece that sparks conversation the moment you walk in.

A reminder that great furniture pieces can take a walk on the wild(ish) side. AS x

Launching something that actually reflects where I’m at.

My new website is now live — bringing together both sides of my work:
• full-service turnkey design for clients
• turnkey design for designers and decorators ready to step up

This has been months in the making, refining how I present what I do and who I do it for. It finally feels clear, aligned, and a lot more me.

Massive thank you to Zoe for the new branding — pushing me into more colour, more personality, and a stronger point of view. Exactly what was needed!

And this is just the start… the course relaunch is not far away.

Most people think of paint as the finishing touch — I use it to shape the entire space.

Image 1 — Bold Bands
In this living room, I introduced horizontal bands to create movement and flow. It gives a simple layout much more presence without adding anything extra.

Image 2 — Colour Divide
This was a garage converted into a kids’ lounge. By using bold black and white from floor to ceiling, I split one large space into three clear zones so it actually functions.

Image 3 — Art Frame
Here, I extended the story beyond the canvas by framing the artwork in painted blocks of baby blue and oatmeal. Now the piece anchors the entire room rather than just sitting on the wall.

It’s still just paint — but when you approach it differently, it becomes one of the most powerful tools you have.

If you’re defaulting to white walls or one “safe” colour — you’re missing a huge opportunity.

Starting an interior design business later in life isn’t a disadvantage—it’s often the reason it works.

You’re not guessing anymore.
You’ve lived, worked, managed people, made decisions… and that shows in how you design and deliver projects.

The real challenge isn’t your age.
It’s staying the course.

Not jumping from idea to idea.
Not comparing yourself to people with more time and less responsibility.

Just building—steadily, professionally, and with intention.

I’ve shared more on this in my latest YouTube episode (linked in bio).
It’s a more honest look at what it actually takes to make
Do you actually think starting later is a disadvantage—or your biggest asset?

Almost two years since I last posted a podcast episode…
and I’m back.

I’ve relaunched the podcast. It’s now called Turnkey Design Talk.

For years, I’ve been running my design and decorating projects in what I call a turnkey way — seeing things all the way through, not halfway, not chaotic, not left hanging at the end. And it changed everything. Calmer projects. Better results. Work that actually feels finished.

Over 2025, I spent a lot of time speaking with designers about what wasn’t working — projects dragging on, photos never happening, that constant feeling of nothing quite landing.

The pattern was obvious.
No clear process to get projects over the line.

This podcast is where I talk about that work properly — how projects are led, how decisions are made, how things get finished, photographed, and wrapped up with confidence.

If that way of working resonates, that’s the conversation I’m having on the new podcast.

🎧 Turnkey Design Talk — now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and wherever you listen.

Hey there 🤍

It’s Adam here. Wishing you — and those closest to you — a wonderful Christmas break and festive season.
I hope there’s a little downtime, good food, and some proper rest in there too.

After the recent tragedy here in Sydney, I’m also sending my fondest thoughts to everyone affected, as we move gently into a new year.

Whatever the next chapter looks like for you, I hope it’s one filled with renewed hope and promise.
Wishing you peace, harmony, and a calm start to what’s next.

✨ Throwback to a bold and beautiful transformation! ✨

Reflecting on the vibrant makeover I did for my best friend’s home a few years ago—this space still sings with personality and warmth! 🎨

The AZTEC SUMMER rug from brings a striking tribal edge to the space, its graphic pattern and shimmering hues adding both energy and sophistication. To layer in a collected, worldly vibe, I introduced woven African baskets on the coffee table for texture and authenticity. 🌍✨ A bold .home cushion ties the look together with its dynamic graphic charm.

I love how ethnic pieces can elevate a space, making it feel curated, storied, and lived-in. This project was a fun and layered collaboration that still makes me smile. What’s a bold piece you’ve added to your space lately? Photography:

Mixing global influences is one of my greatest joys in design—bringing together pieces with history, soul, and a story to tell. ✨🌍

What cherished treasures have you collected from your travels or different periods in your life? How would you love to reimagine them in your home?

This vignette layers a 1940s vintage wooden hat stand alongside a striking African mask from , all elegantly styled on a mid-century sideboard—creating a moment of depth, contrast, and conversation. 🎭✨

And let’s talk about colour! 🎨 This deep oxblood red from makes the wood tones sing, adding richness and warmth to this entertainment corner in a recent Surry Hills living room project.

What pieces in your home deserve a fresh perspective? Let me know in the comments! 👇
