A warm and tactile vision for a hotel refurbishment concept. Layered timber detailing, sculptural arch forms and integrated shelving come together to create a calm, immersive hospitality experience grounded in materiality and craftsmanship.

Designed to preserve character while introducing a refined contemporary atmosphere, the concept explored how natural materials and thoughtful spatial flow can transform existing hotel environments into timeless guest experiences.

"The George Hotel is St Kilda."

It opened before the suburb was even a thing. It has been slingin' beers in one form or another for the better part of two centuries.

It just goes to show, some things change, and some things don't.

In 1873, a man named Frederick Wimpole bought it. He ran it, his family ran it after him, and between them they held the place for nearly eighty years.

Mr Wimpole went on to become Mayor of St Kilda and, perhaps more relevant, a director what was to become Carlton & United Breweries.

A man who owned a pub and then helped run one of the country's most significant brewing outfits. There are worse ways to leave your mark.

When Liam Ganley took over the building, he dove into the history of The George and found Freddie. The name was the obvious choice.

The fit-out followed - reclaimed timber, salvaged materials, the bar built from old doors and posts, a wall tiled entirely in beer cans. The kind of place that looks like it's always been there because, in a sense, it has.

The fourteen rotating beer taps change. The corner hasn't. And we reckon Mr Wimpole would approve of it all.

Our playful fit-out for Young Willow was shaped through a child-like sense of curiosity and exploration, think cubby-house meets hide and seek.

Custom arched joinery, pegboard display walls and soft pastel tones create an immersive retail experience designed to spark imagination, movement and discovery. Leafy greens, warm timber textures and pops of lilac bring together a whimsical and nature-inspired environment for both children and parents alike.

From archive: Bad Shepherd Brewery was designed as a boutique microbrewery experience, bringing together craft beer culture, local produce and an industrial material palette. Exposed steel trusses, raw timber, brewing tanks and warm hanging globes celebrate the character of the existing warehouse, creating a relaxed and communal hospitality environment with a subtle country-industrial feel.

A transformation from monochrome minimalism to a softer, warmer salon experience.

Warm oak finishes, textured surfaces, layered lighting, and translucent perspex elements soften the original palette, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the space. Curved detailing, textured walls, and illuminated joinery bring warmth and depth, offering a quiet retreat from the pace of the street outside.
