Paper Sale Feature – Awagami Kitakata Rolls

The Awagami Kitakata Warm roll has the classic buff-white tone printmakers have loved for decades. It's soft, its warm, it shines when used in monochromatic work and with colour.

The Awagami Kitakata Cool roll offers the same gampi resillience and silky surface but with with a whispery green tone (see second photo) – a truly great option for layering and tonal contrast in chine collé applications.

At 36gsm, and 97cm x 10m in length, these rolls are light enough for hand printing, strong enough for mixed media, collage and book arts, and a strong choice for chine collé.

Archival, acid-free and made at the Awagami Factory in Tokushima, Japan.

Our most anticipated event of the year returns on Monday 1st of June – and this year, for the very first time, you can shop the entire Paper Sale online. This has been a big transition for us, and we are so excited to share what we have been working on with you all.

We know that choosing the right paper, or surface, is one of the important decisions an artist can make and we want to make that process as easy as possible. That's why we've worked hard to ensure each paper in our range is accompanied by detailed product information – covering everything from weight, texture and surface finish, to sizing and technical specifications – alongside new photographs that give you a true sense of each sheet and it's unique qualities.

We hope you enjoy this new iteration of the Paper Sale and we are so looking forward to sharing it with you soon!

The M.E.S June Paper sale begins on Monday 1st June and runs through to the 30th of June.

Keep an eye on your inbox for the moment the sale goes live – you won't want to miss it! Sign up to your mailing list (link in bio) to be the first to get it!

You don't need a lot of tools to make a beautiful book, in fact, you can get started with things that you might already have at home or in the studio. Saying that, there are a couple of tools that will definitely help!

A bone folder is the one tool no bookbinder should be without – use it to score, fold, and burnish without marking or tearing your papers or book covers. Pair it with a sharp NT Cutter Knife and a solid steel ruler for precise, clean cuts every time.

Enjoy 20% off our entire bookbinding range, online & in-store, until the 31st of May 2026!

The Charbonnel oil-based lithography inks are crafted specifically for the unique demands of lithographic printing, giving you the best possible translation from stone to paper.

We stock all three Charbonnel Black Lithography inks (in 200ml tins):

Black Crayon (Light Black):
The softest of the three. Ideal for delicate tonal work, subtle shading, and prints where you want a lighter, more nuanced quality. Perfect for artists exploring gentle gradations and fine detail.

Black Drawing (Medium Black):
The versatile all-rounder. A balanced, mid-intensity black that works beautifully for detailed illustrative work and expressive mark-making alike. A great starting point if you're new to litho inks.

Black Velvet (Deep Black):
The boldest of the range. Rich, intense, and commanding — Black Velvet delivers maximum depth and drama. Ideal when you want your prints to make a real statement.

Each ink's greasy, oil-based texture is highly resistant to water, which is what makes them such a reliable choice for lithography. Charbonnel inks feature pigments chosen for their low acidity and exceptional lightfastness — quality that has been trusted by printmakers for over 160 years.
