Two Samurai clan leaders - handpainted metal 60mm figures by John Jenkins.

Figure on left is - Taira no Tomomori (1152 – 1185) the son of Taira no Kiyomori, and one of the Taira clan’s chief commanders in the Gempei War. He was victorious at the Battle of Uji in 1180, the Battle of Yahagigawa in 1181 and again victorious in the naval Battle of Mizushima two years later.

At the Battle of Dan-no-ura, when the Taira were decisively beaten by their rivals, Tomomori joined many of his fellow clan members in committing su***de. He tied an anchor to his feet and leapt into the sea.

Figure on the right - Minamoto no kuro Yosh*tsune was one of the most famous samurai commanders, not just in the Gempei war, but throughout the whole of Japanese history.
He inspired his followers to three celebrated victories that brought the Gempei war to a successful conclusion.
It was said that he was taught sword fighting by the the goblins of the forest, and was famous for defeating the giant monk Benkei, who then became one of his faithful followers.

Siege of Malta series of figures from John Jenkins
Handpainted metal 60 figures. Note Ottomans are prototype images.
The Great Siege of Malta was when the Ottoman Empire attempted to conquer the island of Malta, then held by the Knights Hospitaller. The siege lasted nearly four months, from 18 May to 12 September 1565.

The Knights Hospitaller had been headquartered in Malta since 1530, after being driven out of Rhodes, also by the Ottomans, in 1522, following the siege of Rhodes. The Ottomans first attempted to take Malta in 1551 but failed. In 1565, Suleiman the Magnificent, the Ottoman Sultan, made a second attempt to take Malta. The Knights, who numbered around 500 together with approximately 6,000 footsoldiers, withstood the siege and repelled the invaders who were more than 35,000.
