Share something PINK!! I want to see your pics... π©·π©·π©·
This is a photo of the Lake under the West Gates Bridge in Port Melbourne. The Lake is a Man-made Salt Lake.
The reason it turns Pink?
One of the main reasons for the change is salt, and lots of it. Although the lake already has a massive amount of salt, it only turns pink when salt levels are higher than usual.
There are also a few other ingredients needed to turn the lake pink:
Β° High temperatures
Β° Lots of sunlight
Β° A lack of rainfall.
Along with these conditions the algae growing in the lake's salt crust produce a red pigment, called beta carotene, as part of their photosynthesis process.
The result: a spectacular deep-pink lake.
