Bits and Pieces Mosaics My mosaic passion started back in 2003 after taking a class with a friend! I like to think I am saving the Planet, one piece of tessera at a time!

Prepping crockery for next weekend’s Gnome Workshop. The curved blade on the Seabell Compound Nippers is fantastic. I have cut squares from these strips. Hard crockery, but the. Tool cuts beautifully!

Has anyone got a favourite plate that they have used in their Mosaics? This is mine! I cannot tell you how many different Mosaics utilised sections of this plate! I used it when creating my Wishing tree for the pond water and the green grass!πŸ’•πŸ˜

I loved the textures that came through on The Wishing Tree! Hand made pottery was used in the sky and the tree bark. I created the tree bark and hot air balloon, playing with clay. Potter friends gave me some of the sky the mushroom, bird and rabbits. The owl was a metal book mark. I created the white daisies out of white crockery, but cut the other petals out of scrap glass. I like to cut flowers off crockery, to use in my mosaics. A metal bird is added top left corner and the butterfly was harvested from a polymer decoration.

It was a beautiful day in Geelong for the Makers Market at Centrepoint Arcade - lots of people and my little white owl got to go to his forever home! I haven't any photos, because guess who forgot to take her mobile or reading glasses? 😬 Here are some other of my sale items on display! πŸ’•

I am almost finished scoring and snapping this red plate with a black background and as I discovered, a very thick footing! Nonetheless, I have managed to score and snap all this tesserae and also discovered that the Seabell Compound Nippers using the curved blade are now helping me to separate the footing areas that refused to snap! If you line the blade up with the score line!
I know time spent isn’t for everyone, but if you have plates and are on a tight budget, it is a wonderful way to get the most out of your plates. πŸ’•

Do not be discouraged with hard to cut crockery! Try scoring and snapping! I need to cut this plate into square tesserae and thus is how I do it! Sometimes the plate may chip but you get to use so much more of the crockery in my opinion! πŸ’•

What a smorgasbord of tesserae! Wonderful to see it all out on the tables. Waiting for students to arrive! So a lot of completed Mosaics being dropped off today!
A new student today on respite, Jenny, who has been a Mosaicer and held classes herself. She hasn't lost the knack, although her hands aren't what they used to be. I was asked to have something for her to do and prepped the white flower that when grouted will go on a stake, but Jenny had that finished in no time and has started on a Mushroom. I have kits organised to create AFL Footy Coloured hangers. I adhered and grouted The Geelong Cats and Fremantle Dockers as a sample. Fremantle Dockers was a tricky one - and I am taking advantage of artistic licence, because no way I could create the Icons for a 4" tile. So they are my version. Colours are as close as I could do with my stash. πŸ’•
