The KBDi & Australian Cabinet & Furniture Association (ACFA) Awards were in Sydney recently and, while we didn’t take home an award this year, it was still pretty special to be a finalist amongst so many talented designers and beautiful projects.

A huge thank you to my lovely clients for letting me enter their home. I’m always so grateful to have clients who trust me to do what I do, and then generously let me photograph and share the end result.

Thank you to KBDi, ACFA and the judges for recognising our project. The standard of work this year was incredible, so I was very happy just to be amongst it.

Such a great night catching up with friends, celebrating our industry and feeling very lucky that I get to do a job I love.

The humble laundry is working VERY hard these days…

One thing we’re seeing more and more in renovations is people combining their laundry with a powder room or second bathroom, especially when space is tight and every part of the home needs to work harder.

And honestly, when it’s designed well, it can work really beautifully.

This was our Greenwich project where we managed to fit a full functioning laundry, toilet and shower into quite a compact space without it feeling cramped or overly “laundry-ish” (definitely not an official design term).

I think the trick with spaces like this is making them feel considered and cohesive rather than purely practical.

Because functional spaces can still feel calm, beautiful and really nice to be in.

This beautiful mid-century home in leafy Middle Cove had such lovely natural light and views over the valley, so we kept the overall design quite minimal.

The bedroom, walk-in robe and ensuite were all designed to respect that mid-century feel, while still feeling really considered and resolved.

There’s actually a lot of restraint in a space like this.
Every detail needs to be quite deliberate, because you notice it.

We brought in walnut timber through the handles and joinery to add some warmth, and kept the palette consistent so it all feels connected.

Although this was completed a few years ago, it’s still one of my favourite projects and a nice reminder that well-considered design doesn’t date.

Laundries are often treated as an afterthought.

They’re one of the most used spaces in the house, but usually the last to be properly considered.

When they’re designed well, they work better, feel calmer, and sit more comfortably with the rest of the home.

There’s no reason they shouldn’t be approached with the same level of thought as a kitchen or a bathroom.

This one was designed to feel connected to the rest of the house, using the same materials and palette so it all flows. Simple, but properly resolved

Choosing the right interior designer can feel a bit overwhelming, especially if you’ve never done it before.

It’s a bit like dating. You might love someone’s style, but the real question is… do they actually get how you live?

No two designers are the same, and no two clients are the same either. The right fit really does make all the difference.

These images are from a recent project in Riverview, designed around my clients and how they live day to day. Nothing is off the shelf, and it doesn’t look like anyone else’s home on their street… because it shouldn’t.

If you’re not sure where to start, that’s completely normal.

It’s a bit like dating after all. You just need to find the right fit.
