🚨 WE'RE STILL OPEN! 🚨

Yes, Craft Expressions is OPEN today… but things are looking a little different around here! 😂

While the doors are open and you can still pop in for a browse, I'm also busy behind the scenes packing stock and getting everything ready to take Craft Expressions on the road to Craft Alive Brisbane! 🚐🎨

There are boxes to fill, stock to sort, displays to organise and approximately a million decisions about "Do I take this… or leave it behind?" 🤔😂

It's a little bit chaotic, but it's the exciting kind of chaos!

So if you're local and you've been meaning to pop into the shop, today is your chance before we hit the road tomorrow.

And if you're heading to Craft Alive Brisbane, keep an eye on the page because I'll be sharing plenty of behind-the-scenes action as we get set up and throughout the show. 💜

🎨✨ CREATE & CELEBRATE SATURDAY! ✨🎨

Today we're celebrating one of my favourite things about crafting…

Making something special with your own two hands. 💜

And today at Craft Expressions, we're getting a little bit Christmassy! 🎄

Candice is here for her Christmas Card Class, where our crafty ladies are creating a beautiful collection of handmade Christmas cards ready for the festive season.

There's just something special about giving someone a card that you've made yourself. ❤️

It might be August, but Christmas has a sneaky habit of arriving before we're quite ready for it! 😂 So getting a head start now means less crafting panic when December rolls around.

And one of the things we love to promote is that it's not just about the finished project. It's the chatting, the laughing, the experimenting, the learning something new and the "Ooh, I like what you've done there!" moments.

It's about taking some time out to create, connect and celebrate being creative. ✂️💜

Last night the team at Craft Expressions decided to do something a little bit different.

As many of you know it was Viv's 80th Birthday last weekend and as part of her celebrations I got her tickets to go and see A Taste of Ireland at the Ipswich Civic Centre.

We started with dinner and then went in to see the show, no photos or videoing allowed so I don't have anything to show of the actual performance, but it was so good. Their dancing told a story of Ireland through the ages and it was very cleverly done. If you get a chance to go and see this somewhere then we can highly recommend.

🌟 FAVOURITE FIND FRIDAY! 🌟

Today’s favourite find is for all my fellow crafters who have ever started a project, put it aside for a little while… and then spent the next week trying to find all the bits that went with it! 😂

🔥 Throwback Thursday – When Crafting Got Toasty! 🔥

Before heat guns became a must-have in every papercrafter's toolkit, we crafty folk had to get a little inventive!

Believe it or not, one of the ways embossing powder was melted was with… a toaster! 🍞😂

Carefully holding your project above the heat, watching and waiting for that magical moment when the powder melted into a smooth, shiny, raised finish.

Looking back now, it seems a little crazy — especially when we have fabulous heat tools designed specifically for the job! But that's the thing about crafters… we've always been a resourceful bunch. Give us an idea, a few supplies and something vaguely capable of producing heat, and we'll find a way to make it work! 🤣

From toasters and improvised tools to the amazing heat guns and embossing products we have today, papercrafting has certainly come a long way.

🍃 WACKY WEDNESDAY 🍃

WARNING: Before throwing out your old craft supplies… check the pantry! 😂

Because apparently, there are some very strange things hiding in there that crafty people have turned into art!

☕ Coffee for painting and staining (most of us know this one)
🫖 Tea bags for collage
🥚 Eggshells for mosaics
🫘 Beans and lentils for colourful designs
🍝 Pasta for sculptures and artwork
🧂 Salt for texture and watercolour effects
🍊 Citrus peel for natural decorations

And suddenly that boring old pantry is starting to look suspiciously like a craft shop! 🤔

Now, before anyone gets any ideas…

NO, THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU SHOULD STOP BUYING CRAFT SUPPLIES! 🤣✂️

Your stamps, papers, inks, paints and embellishments are all perfectly safe at Craft Expressions. 💜

But it does prove that creativity can sometimes be found in the most unexpected places.

🍃 GERALDINE'S CRAFT CORNER 🍃

One of the things I absolutely love about Craft & Connect is seeing what everyone brings along to work on. 💜

Yesterday, Heather arrived with something a little different.

She had found a new craft that she wanted to try and decided to bring it along to Craft & Connect to give it a go and share the experience with the rest of us.

And just look at the result! 😍

There is something really special about trying something new — especially when you're surrounded by other creative people who are just as interested to see how it turns out as you are.

Crafting doesn't always have to be about being an expert or knowing exactly what you're doing. Sometimes it's about finding something that catches your eye and thinking…

“I wonder if I could do that?”

Heather did… and I think you'll agree, her finished project came out absolutely fantastic! 👏✨

That's the beauty of getting together with other creative people. You never know what new idea, technique or craft might inspire you next. 💜
