Fri-YAY...

If you've been wondering what we've been up to lately...

The answer is simple... kinda...

Everything...

Absolutely everything... 🤣

One minute we're heading down the highway under gloomy grey skies, chasing quilt shows, fabric deliveries and coffee strong enough to restart a tractor...

The next minute we're back in the shop admiring quilts so big they need two people, three corners and a clear flight path just to display them...

last week's highlights included...

💜 Beautiful customer Show & Tell...
💜 An Australiana quilt that had everyone stopping for a closer look...
💜 Hearts stitched together with fabrics that tell a hundred different stories...
💜 New fabrics arriving faster than I can find shelf space for them...
💜 Grandie video calls that somehow become the most important meeting of the day...

Can we just appreciate the timing of children...

Fast asleep in the car one moment...

Running the household the next...

No in-between...

Meanwhile...

June has rolled in wearing its sensible winter clothes while we're over here planning road trips, quilt shows and wondering where all the empty shelf space disappeared to...

Somehow endind up with a masterpiece spread across half the shop floor...

Magic...

Actual fabric magic...

Mum-day Monday... 🧵🌻🚗🐄

Who remembers when a road trip meant...

One packet of biscuits... only if you were really, really, really, good...

A colouring book... pencils optional...

A sibling sitting too close... orrrrrrrr even in your spot...

Mum threatening to turn the car around... 😆

Fast forward a few years and apparently, we now need:

✔️ Backseat Babysitters
✔️ Road Trip Organisers
✔️ Changing Stations
✔️ Thread Dispensers
✔️ Hot & Heavy Bags
✔️ Pint-Sized Pals
✔️ Clear View Pouches

Honestly...

I'm here for it...

Because whether you're heading to a quilt retreat, carting Grandies across the countryside, organising sewing notions, carrying half a craft room to class, or simply trying to find your keys before next Tuesday...

There's a bag for that, that, oh of course and that...

Meanwhile, in true Whispers fashion, the cutting table is overflowing with new arrivals...

Sunflowers bright enough to light up a winter morning...

Cheeky cows that look suspiciously like they belong somewhere out on our 40 acres...

Galaxies, florals, farm life and a little bit of everything in between...

The best part...

Every one of these patterns can become uniquely yours...

Country...

Modern...

Bright...

Bold...

Eclectic...

Completely over-the-top colourful...

Or quietly practical...

Much like the people who make them...

So while the coooooo's are busy keeping the paddocks trimmed, OleMate is wondering where all the table space disappeared to...

I'll be over here matching fabrics to patterns and convincing myself that one more project is a perfectly reasonable life choice... 😏

Bring it on...

I have managed to get my 'Hexie' groove on... welllllllll... nearly... does it count that they're covered... I'm gonna take it...

Meanwhile...

This weekend we've had the absolute pleasure of hosting,
A & R Quilters from Redcliffe, who are currently in residence at our Retreat...

And let me tell you...

If you think a plastic tub full of scraps, half-finished projects and "I'll get back to that one day" bundles looks like chaos...

You'd be absolutely right...

But give these ladies a few days, a sewing machine, plenty of tea and a room full of fellow enablers, and suddenly fabric starts behaving itself...

Well... mostly...

What arrived as donated fabrics, rescued WIP's and mystery bundles has been transformed into quilts, wall hangings and beautiful handmade creations destined for charity...

Purple pinwheels spinning into life...

Floral appliqué blooming where there was once only a pile of bits...

Bright fabrics finding new homes...

Projects being stitched, pressed, trimmed, unpicked, re-stitched and occasionally given a firm talking-to...

Because let's be honest...

Not every quilt behaves on the first attempt...

Some require negotiation...

Others require snacks...

A few require turning the rotary cutter off before words are said that would frighten the coooooos...

Yesterday afternoon I had the pleasure of parking myself amongst the action and chatting the hours away with these lovely ladies while creativity unfolded in every corner of the room...

Machines humming...

Scissors snipping...

Stories being shared...

Friendships being strengthened...

And all the while, beautiful items being created for people they've never even met...

That's the bit that gets me every time...

The generosity...

The willingness to give time, talent and patience so someone else can receive something made with love...

We are sew very lucky...

Lucky to host groups like this...

Lucky to watch strangers become friends...

Lucky to witness the magic that happens when a room full of crafters decide they can absolutely save every scrap because "it might come in handy one day..."

Spoiler alert...

Apparently they are right... 😏

Meanwhile, outside, the coooooos were conducting their usual quality-control inspections, OleMate is making sure nobody accidentally relaxs too much, and the Retreat is doing exactly what it was built to do...

Bringing good people together over fabric, friendship and a shared inability to throw away perfectly good leftovers...

If the last month has taught us anything, it's that standing still is highly overrated...

One minute we're unpacking fabric deliveries, the next we're loading the car for a show, welcoming Retreaters through the gate, feeding the coooooo's, chasing Grandies, rearranging the shop, cutting kits, matching blenders and wondering where all the coffee disappeared to...

So...

Who...
The fabulous makers, stitchers, dreamers, planners, colour-auditioners and fabric collectors who make every day here a little brighter...

What...
More fabric. More projects. More Retreats. More laughter. More "I only came in for one thing" moments...

When...
This month, next month and probably the month after that. Let's be honest, creativity doesn't own a calendar...

Why...
Because every quilt starts with an idea. Every friendship starts with a conversation. Every Retreat starts with an empty table that somehow disappears beneath mountains of fabric by lunchtime...

But perhaps the better question is...

Where...

Where are we going to see you next...

At a quilt show...
At a Retreat...
In the shop...
At a class...
Hiding at home with a growing fabric stash and absolutely no intention of explaining it to anyone...

We'll show you ours... if you show us yours... 😉

Because the best part of this crafty little community isn't the fabric...

It's the people behind it...

Fri-YAY...

AND for the enthusiast's, we have an extra looooooooooong post today... go grab that coffee...

Cause you know...

The shop had a little chat with me this week...

Apparently all those new fabrics, patterns, kits, gifts, boots, bags, blenders and bright shiny things were feeling a little squished...

Sew...

Cue the great Whispers of the Valley Furniture Shuffle of 2026.123456...

Tables moved...
Shelves shifted...
Displays relocated...
Patterns found homes...
Patterns lost homes...
Patterns found entirely different homes...

You know... perfectly normal retail behaviour...🤣

While I was busy playing Tetris with furniture, somebody else was conducting very important business...

The Cat Whisperer himself...

One very excited Grandie...
One very fluffy Ragdoll...
One video call...

Pretty sure the cat was less impressed than the Grandie, but neither party seemed willing to hang up first...

Meanwhile, OleMate has been holding down the fort...

You see, while I'm off flying the Whispers flag at quilt shows, talking fabric, showing off kits, meeting old friends and making new ones, somebody has to keep the wheels turning back home...

Deliveries arrive...
Orders go out...
Coffee gets made...
Customers get looked after...

The glamorous side of business, apparently... 😉

AND don't forget that 'happy, thank you, smile'...

Truth be told, the shop doesn't stop just because one of us is away... It takes a team effort, plenty of communication, a bit of patience, and occasionally a deep breath when one of us rearranges half the shop and forgets to mention where things ended up... Wahaha...

Then there was the reminder that none of us are ever really alone...

Whether it's family on a screen, customers popping in for a chat, retreaters planning their next escape, OleMate keeping the home fires burning, or a shop full of fabric enthusiasts enabling each other's next project...

there's always somebody nearby encouraging just one more metre...

Speaking of which...

Who's up for a new project?

The patterns have been rearranged...
The displays have been tidied...
The new fabrics are settling into their new homes...
