I’ve enjoyed making candles for about 5 years now. It’s a lovely mindful time where the room fills with delicious scents and my mind slips into the rhythm of careful melting, mixing and pouring. Over the years I’ve used all sorts of vessels to make candles but never wine bottles which have such a lovely warm glow. Over the past few months one thing led to another and my lovely husband has mastered

the art of cutting and carefully sanding wine and beer bottles. While it’s not a new concept to recycle bottles into candles they are harder to come by as attempts would drive most people slowly insane! My husband is a patient man (my mother would agree!). Once the vessels are ready, I hand pour the candles with this amazing creamy soy wax which burns just perfectly with excellent scent throw (meaning you can smell the candle when you walk in the room!). The label is inspired by our home on Carlton Street. The leaves on the label are from the golden elms which run down the centre of the street. I love gazing out the window at them as they catch the light. Please note the bottle candles do have imperfections as they are handcut and repurposed. Thanks for visiting my page!

Candle making is equal parts creativity and precision. I couldn’t make my candles without a trusty pair of scales! Measuring is so important so you get the right ratio of wax and fragrance ( I won’t bore you with more detail than that 😂) but let’s just say too little fragrance and you won’t smell the candle and too much can make your candle overheat!

I’m so excited to launch Lenah, our stunning frilled taper candle. I’ve spent months testing and retesting to get the wick and wax just right so you get an amazing candle with a long burn (most tapers last a few hours if you are lucky!). I went into recently to drop off some more candles and room sprays, and was so excited to see our brand alongside all these lovely products (I may also have grabbed a pair of gloves while I was there 😂).

I’m not a birth mother but I had the great honour of helping to raise my stepson Will since he was 2.

Reflecting on the journey this morning, this photo is one of a series when we stayed up at St Helens and combed the beach looking for crabs.

Will is now 23 and I couldn’t be prouder of the young man he is.

Today I want to acknowledge all the women out there who are step-parents and caregivers. Who step up to take care of our kids and young adults ❤️❤️❤️.

I’m extremely proud of our collaboration with Derwent Distillery. We’ve made these candles using their whisky and gin bottles. Cut by hand at our studio in New Town. These bottles are made from recycled glass so making them into candles gives them a third life. How great is that?! Pop into their lovely store on Hampton Rd Battery Point and support local ❤️.
