Sally the Printmaker

Sally the Printmaker A passionate artist collecting recruits for her printmaking posse. Why don't you join the tribe? we could go on. Why not come and join the print party soon?

Being creative is in her DNA

Sally’s artistic inclinations began the moment she was able to pick up a coloured pencil. Her childhood was spent growing up in the Australian bush, now living in the Adelaide Hills, Sally can be found in the outdoors wandering, dreaming, and gaining inspiration from her surroundings. Majoring in illustration at the University of South Australia, Sally has spent more

than 20 years heading up a high-profile Design and Marketing consultancy firm here in Adelaide, South Australia. Her love of printmaking stems from a reaction against the digital, the mass-produced and overexposure to advertising. To use print as a way of making art – every time you lift that bit of paper off the plate you never know what you are going to get – no matter how much planning you do. It is all those happy accidents – interesting marks, the way the ink sits on paper, even the plate ….. She regularly teaches small group printmaking workshops, empowering students with her relaxed and fun sessions. Sally loves to see people’s confidence bloom as the realisation takes hold that they, too, can be creative. The joy that participants get from taking home their own print at the end of the day is a great motivator for her.

I’m told that if you wear an owl mask and eat chocolate - the calories fly off! So I’m testing the theory for Leonie Oakes_artist

A little personal post from me today

This gorgeous human is my niece, Lucy, and they are taking part in Clippers for a Cause 2026, raising money for an incredibly worthwhile cause.

I know this feed is usually all things printmaking, carving and making, but I’m hoping you’ll indulge me with this little detour!

Lucy will be chopping those blonde locks later this month!
If you can spare a few dollars, every donation helps, and it would mean a lot to Lucy (and to our family) to see the fundraiser get some love.

You can read about what they are doing and support Lucy here:

Thanks for indulging my proud aunty moment.

Hi there, I have signed up for Clippers for a Cause fundraiser which will be held at Immanuel College on September 16. My goal for clippers for a cause is $100 to help the Unite4Kids Foundation to support the children who are facing serious illness and their families who help their children go throu...

The sun's out, and today has been a wonderful day for creating a bunch of new eco contact prints. Sampling and running some new tests! Who else is impatient for the big reveal?

A wonderful happy accident this morning from Katie. How fabulous is the offset of a sharpie marker.

I’M A PRINTMAKER. OBVIOUSLY I NEED THE TOTE.

Not just any tote.
A tote that tells the world you’d rather be covered in ink than behave like a normal person. What is even normal? Normal is a setting on your washing machine, and that is about it.

You know. Printmaker stuff.

Carry your printmaking personality like the badge of honour it is.
>> Pick your poison. Grab your not boring tote today.

Because life’s too short for freaken beige bags.

It is finally live..... Learn the magical art of Eco Botanical Printmaking.

Because what if your beautiful botanical contact prints could become so much more than a single sheet of paper?

In this new online course, I’ll show you how to take those gorgeous prints made from leaves and foliage and turn them into books, layered artworks, keepsakes and meaningful pieces of art.

I’m especially interested in the idea of capturing a sense of place.

The leaves you gather on a bushwalk.
The eucalyptus from your favourite spot.
The foliage growing around your home.
That little collection of botanical treasures you couldn't resist bringing back to the studio.

Instead of simply collecting them. I will show you how to print with them, and we’re going to explore how those prints can become memories of the places you love.
> Print
> Layer
> Fold
> Combine
🌿 Create something completely new that is made from the heart.

This is about giving your botanical prints another life and seeing just how far you can push the possibilities.

The course is now soft launched, so if botanical contact printing has been calling your name, this is your invitation to come and play.

Turn your foraged leaves into art, books and memories.

Come and explore the new course here: https://www.caston.com.au/courses/eco-printing/

Grab a cuppa, gather some leaves and let’s see where your prints can take you.
