Last night we ate at Antica Macelleria Cecchin 🥩🍷

This butcher/restaurant has been in the family for 8 generations now! What an experience!

The good vibes start from the moment you arrive. Everyone waits outside for it officially open. While you wait staff come out and serve you seasoned lard served on fresh hot bread and glasses of wine are handed out. Your full and tipsy before you even sit down 😂😂😂

This famous butcher and restaurant has such a vibrant vibe where everyone sits at communal tables, free-flowing wine, and a real celebration of Tuscany in the Chianti region 🍷

The menu is centred around meat, showcasing different cuts and traditional flavours. The meal is complemented by delicious sides like the famous beans and olive oil cake. The staff are warm, welcoming and help create a fun, memorable dining experience.

Yesterday Florence celebrated their Patron Saint (San Giovanni) ✨ It was a long day! Starting with a street parade, followed by Calcio Storico (a 500 year old traditional game that mixes football, rugby and wrestling) and a huge firework finale 🧨

We were lucky enough to get tickets to the finale match as my brother in law plays drums in the parade 🥁

The match was nuts! There are 4 teams that are divided by the different areas of Florence and each represent their own church ⛪️

My husband was born and raised in the Santo Spirito area (white) but only the Blue and Red teams were in the finals 💙❤️

The game lasts 50 minutes with no break. It’s brutal! Lots of sweat, blood and serious injuries! There are no subs, when a player is injured they are removed from the field and the game continues.

The winning team earns neighbourhood pride (bragging rights for a whole year) and a White Tuscan Cow🐮

The fireworks usually last for about 40 minutes and they were magical 💫 We lay down in the piazza and watched them light up the sky above us 🎇🎆

It was an interesting experience 🤍

The Blue (Azzurri) team won but it was close! 19-18.
