Hey Everyone,
I had a strange experience today when I visited Chapel St today.
The lack of independent small businesses and empty stores on the street made me so sad. Except there’s a million op shops - they don’t have the overheads us independents have.
Running a small business isn’t just a job, it’s a labor of love. Behind every independent store is an owner who pours their heart, soul, and endless hours into making their dream a reality. It’s early mornings, late nights, and often working seven days a week, doing everything from stocking shelves and managing finances to personally helping customers find exactly what they need.
Small business owners don’t just sell products; we curate, create, and bring unique offerings to our communities. We carefully select every item, choosing quality over mass production, and often source from local artisans and makers. There’s a level of care and personal touch that no online algorithm can replicate.
But running a brick-and-mortar store isn’t easy. Rent, wages, stock, marketing, and the unpredictability of retail all add up. Unlike big corporations, we don’t have massive safety nets or endless resources, we rely on the loyalty and support of our community to keep their doors open.
When you choose to shop at a local store instead of a big chain or online giant, you’re making a difference. You’re helping a small business survive, a dream stay alive, and a community thrive. You’re ensuring there’s a real, tangible place to go when you need thoughtful service, unique finds, and a genuine shopping experience.
So next time you need a gift, homeware, or just something special, visit your local store. Because behind that counter is someone who has dedicated their life to bringing you something wonderful. Someone who truly cares. Your support doesn’t just mean a sale; it means the world.
